Rescue Guidelines
There are the basic guidelines for my (Iowa) rescue. Each site listed on my page may have its own requirements and guidelines.
Each individual case with be examined and treated on its own merits and needs.
Our prime goal is the concern of the unwanted and MISTREAT pet chinchillas.

Whenever possible the animal(s) will remain temporarily in the care of their current owner/care taker.  During this time period various people involved in the group will attempt to place the chinchilla in a suitable forever home.
When this is not possible, housing will be provided by:  A person from the group or with another shelter group with supervision by our members or at a local animal shelter.  Often time we will become involved with animals already place in a local shelter and aid in the care and placement of those animals.

Animals that are surrendered to rescue MUST also come with the cage and all food supplies, equipment that is currenly being used for the animal at the time of the request.

All chins must be voluntarily give up to the rescue with the original owner ending all control, rights, ownership and responsibilities to the rescued chin or chins.

Rescued animals will not be bred and intact pairs must be separated as soon as possible.

Previous owners (any one that surrenders an animal to rescue) must consider the actions that put them and their pet into this situation and should recondisider ever taking on the care of another animal.  Heavy responsibility of having a pet is just too much for some people.
