Things to know about your pet chinchilla
Less Delightful habits:
Chinchillas are a very cute animal, but there are some things that could be a bit annoying to some keepers.
Urine spray.   Some chins, male and female, can develop the habit on spraying or streaming urine.   Females will sometimes do this to drive intruders from their territory.  She will raise up and balance on her hind legs and let it fly.  Amazingly, they have rather perfect aim, and shoot for the eyes and face of the interlooper.  When babies are handled properly when young and socialized to humans, the females we not develope this habit.
Males on the other hand, rarely spray or stream urine, and also rarely do this to defend territory. More often, they will run about, chasing a female in heat and spray to attract her to his scent.
Poop eating and hair (penis) rings

Chin voices:
Chins are not a very vocal animal, compared to their cavy cousins.  Many people think chins are mute, but that is far from the case. Here are some sights that will actually let you play various calls of the chinchilla and let you know what each means.
