The Book of Shadows is a book where Wiccans store all their magical information. Inside you would find rituals, spells, recipes, correspondences, and any other information and “how-to’s” a Wiccan would need to practice the Craft. There is no one “official” Book of Shadows. Back when Wicca started, Gerald Gardner wrote all his rituals and such into a book he called a Book of Shadows. Each Wiccan who then joined a coven was told to copy the information from his Book of Shadows so that everyone would have a copy. They say that its best to hand-write your BOS (short for Book of Shadows) so many people get a blank journal and use that. Others have a BOS on their computer and print off papers and stick them into a 3-ring binder. With this option, you can decorate the pages and the cover with any designs you want. You can print pictures of the internet and stick them in there too. If you do art, you could draw in your BOS as well. Its your choice, so be as creative as you can. You can buy small tabs to stick on some of the pages for quick access to certain pages. The nice thing about keeping a book where all your favorite information is in, is that you can place it on the altar and have all the info. there while doing rituals. Along with the Book of Shadows, Wiccans may have a few other books. They may have a dream journal where they can keep their dreams in, and they may have a record book where they write down all magical experiences and also notes on the rituals and spells they do. Some write this right in their BOS but I find it easier to have separate books for things. |

Heaker as the witches word, Calls the Lady and the Lord Moon above and Earth below Sky's cool blue and Sun's hot glow In this right and ready hour, Fill these pages with thy power May no unprepared eyes see The secrets which entrusted be To I walk this hidden road To find the Hearthstones calm abode Gardians from the four directions Hear me now and lend thy protection May these truths truths of Earth and Sky, Sheilded be from prying eyes But to witches whose map this be, May the way be plain to see And through all the coming ages, May we find home in these pages So mote it be! |
