Woodburning |
Woodburning, or pyrography is very fun and easy to do, especially when you tie it in with Wicca. All you need is a piece of wood, some sandpaper to smooth it and the woodburner, which can be found at any craft store or craft department in a store. To do it, sand your piece of wood so its smooth. This will make it easier for the woodburner to glide over. Then plug in the tool (it will take a few minutes to warm up). But first of, if you dont draw freehand, you will want to draw an imagie on to the wood first. Then just go over the image with the tools. You may want to practice on some scrap wood first so you get the feel of it. Dont keep the tip on the wood too long of it will burn very deep very fast. Just glide it over your pencil marks. When you have the outline done, you can do a little shading. Everyone remember middle school art class and the basic techniques of shading? Well if not, then just dont shade. When you shade you have to use it like a pencil...just go over the wood very fastly so it only burns it a little bit. You dont want it to be too dark. When you have your image all burned, you can stain it with a light wood stain, then go over it to make it waterproof and shiny with polyurathaine (found at hardware store). If you have watercolors, you can paint the image with a really watery solution of those, then put polyurathaine over it. Here are a few example of some work I've done. |
