MP3s and the art for the unreleased album at Phil Puleo's site. Phil is probably the best musician in terms of making his old work available that I've come across. Everyone thank Phil for providing material and bandwidth.

Dig Dat Hole seems to have started out in Providence, Rhode Island. Supposedly, a label called Adult Contemporary (run by someone named Tom Smith) went under, and therefore failed to put out Dig Dat Hole's album Kneejerk. Steve Albini's Ruthless Records test pressed Kneejerk, but never released it. Albini mentions the band in this Big Black tour diary for Wednesday August 8th of whatever year the tour was (1987, I think): "Dig Dat Hole (who, out of kindness, will be referred to as The Other Band) were pretty darn awful good. Tom "Shipbuilding" Smith (alias "Lyin' Sack o' Shit" Smith) has apparently been jacking off so long he's forgotten how to hold down a job and make money, so all of AC's bands have been getting sob stories and bullshit for lo, these many months. The Laughing Hyenas are going to start over, and The Other Band are going to let me do their record. As long as I don't have to tell anybody the name of the group, it'll be okay."

There is a story here (an Indie List Digest from 1994) which seems to be in error, since it claims Dig Dat Hole only stenciled their name all over Providence, then moved to NYC and became Cop Shoot Cop. Albini's tale involves playing with Dig Dat Hole in Providence, so there you go.

Dig Dat Hole Discography

Kneejerk - LP. Ruthless 018. This was a test pressing only. Good luck getting it. You can see it at www.consumerrevolt.de here tho. And there's actually a story about someone buying a copy of the test pressing here. There is also a 7 song demo tape version, which can be seen there as well. I'm not sure if they are the same song versions.
