Middletown

DOWNTOWN MIDDLETOWN

Middletown is the Southern Gateway to Lake County and lies halfway between Calistoga in Napa County and Lower Lake. Middletown was once a Stage stop on the main road to Clear Lake and remains a major stopping off place for visitors to Clear Lake and Lake County.

Not hurried by the usual day to day pressures of larger cities, Middletown has a very comfortable pace and is one of the most popular places to move to in Lake County with ready access to the North Bay for jobs and "big city" amenities. Middletown hosts Middletown Days and Christmas in Middletown along with Wine & Art auctions at Guenoc Winery.

Just north of Middletown are Crazy Creek Gliders & Skydivers and Guenoc Winery, (which hosts Lily Langtry Day each year the Saturday before Mother's Day) and to the northwest is Harbin Hot Springs. Twin Pine Casino is just south of town.

Hidden Valley

Hidden Valley is just north of Middletown and was part of the original Rancho Guenoc Spanish Land Grant. There you will find the Hidden Valley Golf Course and the Old Stone House Museum, originally built in 1854.

Cobb Mountain Area

The Cobb Mountain Area, "Where the forest meets the sky", is a 4-season wonderland where clean air, clear waters, and tall trees invigorate the soul. Enjoy snow that doesn't linger in winter, wildflowers and redbud blossoms in spring, warm days and cool nights in summer, and an "Indian Summer" preceding a display of fall colors. There's serenity for hikers, mountain bikers, wilderness seekers, and lovers of the outdoors, at Bogg's Mountain State Demonstration Forest. Fishing, bird watching, rockhounding, and sightseeing are year-round activities.

Cobb Mountain is the highest peak of the Mayacamas Range at 4,722 feet and forms the Lake and Sonoma county's boundry in this area. The communities of Cobb were started in the 1800's around several famous resorts with natural hot springs and mineral baths and are now home to The Geysers, a geothermal development and a Jellystone Campground, two 9-hole golf courses, and a bed and breakfast.
