The capital of Manggarai regency, known for its traditional style of buildings, situated at the foot of Mt. Ranaka. 3 Kms from Ruteng, there is Compang, the village with the original tradition still preserved. Also the tophill of Golocuru is another point of its panorama and recreation.
The home of Komodo dragon (Varanus Komodoensis), the only survived ancient reptile living in Komodo island. Around Komodo and its neighbouring island you will be fascinated by the magnificent undersea panorama. Other islands (55) such as Bidadari, Sibolo, and Kanawa stay unhabited, where you can explore and might encounter rare plants and animal. Some species of fish living there are : the largest Napoleon fish, Aketurus Scriptus, Petrois Antemata, Aetobatis Narinari.

Beautiful natural object with sulphuric hotspring, situated at the highland with the cool weather, good for taking rest. It is well known for its remedy of skin disease.
Recreational forest with various preserved species. It is suitable for recreation and related research.
Reo
In previous centuries, Reo was the part considerable trading potentials.
Liang Bua : is a cave 13 kilometres from Ruteng, which not so long ago cause minor sensation due the finding of rare prehistoric fossils.
Ulumbu Hotspring : Lying far behind the mountains and near the southern coast, has a geyser, spurting water 15 meters high. The place, however, is not easy to reach.
Mount Pocoranaka : Is the highest mountain on Flores island, and practically unexplored.
Ranamese : Is a big lake in the mountain, The air is cool and sometimes misty, good for relaxing, water sports and fishing.
A little town inhabited by fishermen, 140 Kms from Ruteng, lies at the extreme western part of Flores island. The town serves as a jumping off point for the trip to Komodo island. It is a beautiful area for water skiing, wind surfing, fishing and many other marine activities.
Pede Beach : White sandy beach convenient for water-skiing, diving, swimming and fishing. it is an ideal place to do all this and from here sunset are beautyfully visible. Can be reached by ferry from Sumbawa or by Merpati from Denpasar (Bali) to Labuan Bajo. It is not far from Labuan Bajo, accomodation and other facilities are available.
In the south of Labuan Bajo there is a large and well-known hunting park called Waewuul.
The surrounding of Rinca island and Rinca Island Marine Park are still unspoilt and not much visited.
There is the old Padar, or Ninunakeng Marine Park. Boatsmen in Labuan Bajo always take visitor there.
On the way back, visit the Mutiara - pearl breeding farm in Labuan Bajo. New Labuan Bajo Bay are dozens of islands and coral rocks set in calm, blue water.
Batu Cermin Cave : is 5 Kms from the town of Labuan Bajo. There is a big hall inside, flat like a conference table. Enlighted by stalagtit and stalagmit. Some tunnels are narrow and dark, but in other sunlight falls. To get there, a motor bike or car would be more practical. From this point the visitors can enjoy the sunrise or sunset. The cave of Batu Susun is located near Batu Cermin. It is 5,000 Sq.Kms large, Thorny bushes block the cave's enterance, but for those who are willing, to brave them there was ample reward inside.
Another challenging site near Labuan Bajo is Waraloka Cave. Antique ceramics have been found here.
Bidadari Island and Surrounding
This small island only 14 or 15 hectares large and is located in Labuan Bajo Bay. Can be reached by motor boats. The island is covered with many hills, grow with trees and surrounded by fine white sand. Fishes swim in calm and transparent water.
Kalong Island is 10 miles from Labuan Bajo. The island is derives its name from thousands of bats which line trees.
Pulau Monyet, or Monkey Island, is only about half a mile away from Labuan Bajo. Plenty of smart monkeys live on this island.
At Liang Dara, an ancient civilization once existed. The site is reminiscent of Liang Bua, where fossils were found.
