From Ruteng (capital of Manggarai regency), the road leads east towards the regency of Ngada. Ngada has plenty of ancient villages in which the people still practice the old cult of ancestral worship. It is not surprising to find in every village, a mezbah, dedicated to the spirits of the ancestors.
The capital of Ngada regency, which lies in the middle of the cool highlands. It is a pleasant little town such as is seldom found elswhere in Flores. About 135 Kms from Ruteng. Bajawa also can be reached from Kupang by aircraft, or from Ende by car.
Abulobo and Inerie are twin mountains with sharp peeks, known locally as the "sky pillars", and popular among mountaineers. They are located near the coast and have wonderful scenary.
Bena is a prototype of an ancient Ngada village situated 18 Kms from Bajawa. Such villages are found in rather great numbers in the area and can be reached by car from Bajawa in about one and a half hour. There is also a hotspring nearby the village.
The way of life of the people is unique, and so are the houses and the traditional ceremony known as Reba.
Cool weather with hotspring, situated 20 Kms from Bajawa. Every June, there is a traditional boxing known as Sagi, at the village of Soa, Natanege and Taru Torong.
Situated at Riung, about 70 Kms from Bajawa. The visitors can explore a group 17 islands. Most of the islands are coral, preserving many colourful species of fish. Some are sandy with caves, covered by mangrove trees where thousands of bat nests fot along the day. There is suitable for diving, snorkling and scuba-diving. There you can also find the reptile smaller than Varanus Komodoensis called Mbou.
A small town on the foot of Mt. Ebulobo. The old part of the town is characterized by megalithic stones and traditional houses where the yearly ceremonies take place. It is former the capital of Nage kingdom. The most popular yearly festival is Etu (a traditional boxing). Boawae is easy to reach both from Bajawa and Ende.
A place of historic remain with megalithic site, 50 Kms from Bajawa.There you can also find the fossil of Stegodon (Stegodon Florensis). It is a challange for prehistoric and paleontology research.
