This area is where we get to show off our inspirations. Give these guys shout outs!
They've meant an awful lot to us, and has given years of inspiration and enjoyment to
their legions of loyal hardcore fans!

L.A. Guns -- I Owe 'Em One! L.A. Guns
This band was the core inspiration of all our work since we first clapped eyes and ears on them in 1989! They are the models of The Vampires of Hollywood. Hey, they were the ones who truly introduced us to the vampire way of life!
I have to thank them straight out for being the one that brought myself (Gypsy) and my boyo, Gutter , together. I had been searching for L.A. Guns' fan club when I stumbled upon Gutter's site [Realm of The Hollywood Vampires]. If it hadn't been for these guys I'd be single! Most folks have heard L.A. Guns and they don't know it. I honestly believe they are worthy of checking out!

Hanoi Rocks
There has been many imitators of Hanoi Rocks but there could only be one Hanoi Rocks! This Finnish rock and roll band was the inspiration for not only myself ( permanently altered my ideas of fashion!) but for scores of bands that followed. These guys are the models for my beloved and favourite vampire gang, The Hanoi Boys, as well as The 11th Street Kids, who are a subgang under Hanoi Boys.
The shame about Hanoi Rocks is that they were a dynamic talent when all together, and right on the eve of their big break, Razzle, their British drummer, was killed in an automobile accident ( the car was driven by Motley Crue singer, Vince " The Killer" Neil) and though the band tied to hang in there, slowly they fell apart. Michael Monroe, the singer, broke his leg, and Sam Yaffa , the bass player was the first to leave. Finally in 1985, the band called it quits. It was the world's loss. About seven years later, I first heard Hanoi Rocks' song," Tragedy" and I never looked back! I have a copy of Michael Monroe's famous Hanoi Rocks "Rose" tattoo, tattooed on my upper arm. I'm hardcore on the Finnish scale, at least I hope I am!

Izzy Stradlin
Izzy Stradlin really came across on solo as being alot cooler than he ever was in Guns and Roses. When I heard him sing in Concert during the first leg of the Illusions tour I'd never knew he could sing before! He remains a very cool influence on me, My fave album of his is his debut " Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju hounds"
Favourite Song: Old hat ( from 117 degrees)
Favourite time and place I like to remember him: Singin "14 years " In Denver at a concert the folks didn't want me anywhere near and if they knew there was no Parental Supervision for us 14 year olds and we where hanging out with Junkies and singing Faster Pussycat songs on the steps of McKnichols areana I think they'd have a fit! Best memory of Izzy ever! Oh yeah and a Fat guy fell on me during Skid Row ..YOU know who you are dude! Thanks for nearly getting me killed ! (LOL)

New York Dolls
From that first moment I heard David Johanson's gritty New York voice spitting out lyrics, I knew I dug the Dolls. They may look a bit like "last call" in a Greenwich Village bar, but that was the beauty of it. They are rock and roll and all the make -up on in the world couldn't cover it up. Once called "New York's Answer to The Rolling Stones", I think The New York Dolls were more than that. The Stones were movng up from the streets, but the Dolls, they were the street!
Fave album:New York Dolls
Fave song: Jet Boy

Iggy Pop
Whether it is with The Stooges or solo, Iggy is a dynamic personality, talent, person! Hyperactive like a child he threw himself full bodied into his music on stage and off. He is a force to reckon with. Burdened by battles over years, Iggy has emerged the victor! His music is ageless. he may since "!970" but it could well be "1990" or "2000" and mean the same! I like this particula image of Iggy. The blond hair is very cool he is the inspiration of a " 'Nother" named Goldie, in the now defunct Velvet Spacetime/Children of the Revolution comic book series.
Fave Iggy/Stooges album: Kill City/ Raw Power( the new Iggy mix)
Fave Iggy/Stooges song: Sell Your Love/Search and Destroy( new Iggy mix)

Debbie Harry
She was thirty years old when her group Blondie struck gold in the late seventies. Debbie Harry is one of my female heroes, which are far and few between. She was sexy, blonde, teasing, and intelligent. Blondie may have been a band, but it wouldn't have been famous with out Debbie! When I first bleached my hair, I said " I wanna be a platinum blonde" and that was for Debbie!
Fave Blondie/Debbie Harry album: Eat To The Beat/Rock Bird
Fave Blondie/Debbie Harry song: X-Offender/ Rock Bird

Guns and Roses
These guys were even more street than the Dolls. They were abusive, arrogant, mean and dirty! But that is what we loved about them! Axl pulled no punches and probably threw more than his share..But they played steady songs, and they put on a show of a life time. I have to thank Axl Rose for one thing, he is the one that made Hanoi Rocks accessible to me. So thank you Axl, and try not to take W.A.R. too personally!
Which brings me around to GnR inspiring the baddest bunch of vamps on the Sunset Strip, "the anti-Hollywood", The Black Rose Gang. They seem to have no souls and no mercy for anyone including themselves. Black Rose came about from the music of Appetite For Destruction, from violent side of Illusions and such lovely tunes as "I Used To Love Her ( But I had To Kill Her)".
Gypsy's Fave GnR member: Duff McKagan
Jez's Fave GnR member: Izzy Stradlin
Gypsy's Fave GnR album: Appetite
Jez's Fave album: Use Your Illusion2
Gypsy's Fave GnR song: Rocket Queen

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble

Stevie Ray may not have influenced my horror writings one bit. But he inspires me to no end in some of my other works like the blues saga "Texas Flood" series. All the other bands listed have been influences and fun time bands. Bands that I listen to when I just want to think or mindlessly ramble on in my regular efforts to draw and write. But Stevie Ray's music is pure and simple spiritual. I learned a basic grammer of blues by listenng to Stevie and his brother Jimme ( Jimmie, who I saw in concert about two years ago on a stormy august night) I have added to my blues tastes the imfamous Robert johnson, Buddy Guy, Bessie Smith, Memphis Minnie, Janis Joplin,Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Storyville, ArcAngels( featuring Double Trouble)Through Stevie Ray I learned alot more than I had expected. Therefore he continues to inspire by leading the path to other greats of this genere. As well I state over and over again, wasn't anyone who was or will EVER be like Stevie Ray again.
I wanted to use a picture supporting the other members of SRV's band Double Trouble, but I loved this picture so much! Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon are still out there and still influence me as well as Stevie has.
Fave SRV song: Change it ( thought I battle it out between Superstition and Boothill!)

Gene Loves Jezebel

This band was one you never could peg down. They could be anything you wanted them to be. And that's what I liked about them. The looks changed so often but then again always had the same vividness about it. The twins Jay and Michael have influenced Gypsy and Me oddly enough. In the way we look.they were the first twins I adored since( and this dates me Good Lord!) Nelson..( sorry to admit that, my Nelson days are way behind me) Though Jay has toned down his wold Jezebel days he can never get away from it completely. The band keeps me inspired through many way. I can always come up with a drawing, or a short story just by putting on one of thier albums!
Fave song: Rhino plasty
Fave video: Motion of love( followed by Welcome to L.A.)\
Fave album: (at current date of 2/26/01) Voodoo Dollies
