Accomplishments: Jushin Lyger debuted on March 3, 1984 against Shunji Kosugi. His first match in New Japan was in 1989, and in this match he defeated Kuniaki Kobayashi. He quickly became a top Junior Heavyweight in NJPW, eventually capturing the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title eleven times. He made appearances in WCW during the 90's, making his debut in 1991 against Brian Pillman, on the first ever edition of Monday Night Nitro. He later wrestled guys like Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, and Ricky Steamboat. In 1996, Lyger was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which cost him his hearing in one ear. Not but weeks later, he recovered, and actually returned to action! He changed his wrestling style to help reduce strain that was being put on his body. He began to wrestle more mat based matches. In 2004 Lyger debuted in Ring of Honor. In Lyger's first RoH match, he defeated Bryan Danielson. In his second match in RoH, him and Samoa Joe defeated Bryan Danielson and Low Ki. Lyger also wrestled in TNA, losing to Samoa Joe on TNA's Bound for Glory pay per view. Jushin Lyger was a breakout professional wrestler in Japan, and is, and probably always will be a man to look up to in the pro wrestling business. He has been an inspiration for many, and will continue to do so with his awesome high flying skills, and great wrestling ability. Written by: Matt Lytle |
