iDEA-BI Decision Support System – Designing

 iDEA-BI-(Integrated Digital Environment for Analytical -Business Intelligent) is a management decision support system for a Local Bank. The system is based on Oracle 8.1.7 and AIX Unix 4.

The Data warehouse-OLAP system is to give management information of the customer profitability and budget in various aspects, the bank branch wise profitability monthly and customer activity information for the financial limits given to them.

Data was extracted from OLTP system of bank and extra information fed separately, and then transformed and loaded in the Oracle 8.1.7 database, which facilitate warehouse design, where all transformation was done through Oracle Warehouse Builder 9i (OWB 9i).

The Discoverer 4.0 Reports were used to analyze the data patterns found in the database as per the management’s requirements and help them to arrive at meaningful and prompt decisions as and when needed allowing them to have the freedom of dynamic reporting

Upgrade of Time System Invoicing System from Forms 4.5 to Forms 6i

I was one of eight responsible for the upgrade of a running system from Oracle Forms 4.5, Oracle Reports 4.5 to Oracle Forms 6i and Oracle Reports 6i respectively. The team was involved in upgrade, Test and implement the system the changes. With an integrated help system also included.

I was involved in the development of a system to automate the commercial scheduling activities of a broadcasting organization. This will enable the organization to carry out time allocation of commercials, based on some complex business rules, depending on the time slot requested by the clients.

I was involved in the development of the Center Management system for the John Keells Institute of Information Technology, one of the leading educational institutes in Sri Lanka, using ORACLE 8, Developer 2000 (Forms 6) and Reports 6.0. This systems caters to student enquiry, follow up, admissions, management of fee payments, student transfers, MIS reports and housekeeping routines. My responsibility includes writing Program Specifications, Development of programs, Unit Testing, System Testing and data migration.

Document Revenue System - Support

P&O Nedlloyd is a shipping company based in London.

Document and Revenue System (DRS) a shipping system that was used by the users worldwide. From JKCS, Colombo we operated a support team for the South African, Indian, Middle East and West African regional users. The system is based on Oracle 7.3 database and AIX Unix. The regional users log the problems encountered with regard to the system and it will be acknowledged and feedback is given depending on the severity level. Thereafter the problem is analyzed and assessed as to whether it is an application or technical related problem. In this regard I was involved in the resolution of the technical problems related to the integrity of the application and the operating system by the way of writing and modifying existing shell scripts. The Unix Operating System is heavily used for job scheduling, house keeping, back up & recovery, file transfers between machines, flexibility in working between databases etc.

Space Allocation System for Containers

Developed and implemented a Space allocation system for containers using C. The objective of this system is to carry out the optimal allocation of container space to store boxes of fixed sizes.  Depending on the number of boxes and the sizes, the system carries out space allocation and provides a report as to whether how many containers are needed for storage.

Fixed Assets System, for the assets maintenance at Jafferjee Brothers Group for more than 30 departments.

It comprised of Fixed assets maintenance under major categories (Land & building, furniture and fittings etc), definition of depreciation methods for assets, carrying out of annual depreciations, revaluations, disposals, additions, improvements and maintenance to assets and MIS reports.

Cashiering System, for the centralized cash maintenance at Jafferjee Brothers Group for more than 30 departments. This system handles daily transactions, the distribution of payments to various ledgers, bank reconciliation and production of MIS reports.
