Reunions 308th Strategic
Missile Wing William Leslie ATTENTION All 308 SMW Missileers As a former 308th Strategic Missile Wing member, I am sending this letter to solicit your interest in a military reunion. If you recall, the 308th SMW was inactivated in 1987, shortly after the last remaining Titan II missile was removed from alert status. In commemoration of 25 years of service during the Cold War, plans are underway to conduct the FIRST wing reunion in Little Rock Arkansas. Tentative plans are to hold this event in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Little Rock AFB in October 2005. Other events scheduled during this timeframe are: a dedication ceremony in Heritage Park for those killed in action while assigned to Little Rock, a Retiree Appreciation dance, and an air show featuring the Air Force Thunderbirds. The city of Jacksonville also plans to open a new museum with a large exhibit of 308th SMW military history. As a courtesy from the Association of Air Force Missileers (AAFM), your address was provided to conduct a survey of former 308 SMW members. For many individuals, this assignment was their first operational experience and introduction to Strategic Air Command. So please consider this letter an invitation to participate in this historic event. Having attended a similar event with the 390th Memorial SMW from Davis-Monthan AFB, I can assure you will not be disappointed. It is our goal not to let another opportunity pass without conducting a 308th SMW celebration. We are fast approaching the 20th anniversary of the de-activation at Little Rock Air Force Base. To date we have over 40 interested parties from operations and maintenance, and we hope others will join in the planning and participation. If you have computer internet capability, further details for a 308th SMW reunion will be posted on the Association of Air Force Missileers website at www.afmissileers.org. So if you are interested in a reunion, please respond to my home or email address above. Again, we welcome you back and appreciate any suggestions to make this a successful event! Sincerely, WILLIAM (BILL) LESLIE ATTENTION
