The Thylacine once lived in Australia. It was the largest living carnivorous marsupial. That made it very important to the ecosystem. It may look like a canid but really the Thylacine belonged to a family of its own. It evolved to look dog-like because of the way it lived but it was still a marsupial. |

The Tasmanian Tiger became officially extinct in 1936. The very last Thylacine was captured and put in a zoo in 1933. The Thylacine's name was Benjamin.
