Restoring Function ... Creating Balance | |||||||||||||||||||
WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE! Thank you for visiting My Bio In 1999 I graduated from Vancouver's West Coast College of Massage Therapy, completing the nationally-recognized 3 year program. Since then, I have worked with Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Acupunturists and other Registered Massage Therapists, gaining hands-on experience with many different pathologies and conditions. Early on, I discovered that most chronic muscular conditions respond to traditional therapy with only short-term symptomatic relief. As my practice developed, and through continuing education, I have worked toward finding methods to improve the quality and duration of patients' response to treatment. With hands-on team experience, several post-graduate courses on Myofascial Release Therapy, a four year practice in Yoga, a one year practice in Pilates and Personal Training, I have developed treatments that combine several different techniques to maximize patient benefit. During your treatment session I may use several of the following techniques: Myofascial Release Muscle Energy Systemic Deep Tissue Massage Joint Mobilization Propioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation(PNF) Neuromuscular Technique (NMT) Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) Craniosacral Therapy In treatment, I often use deep tissue massage and moist HEAT applied directly to shortened muscle fibres, immediately followed by a prolonged stretch to encourage proper tissue alignment. The moist heat allows the large A fibres in the skin to be stimulated, which closes pain receptor sites and inhibits pain signaling to the brain. Using my knowledge of Anatomy and Kinesiology, I am able to determine each tissue's unique fibre direction and the antagonsitic action needed to stretch the tissue. Combining the above methods results in a more effective, therapeutic treatment that helps to restore muscle function and balance. To help maintain the benefits of treatment, patients are taught specific stretches to do at home, As a result, the patient can experience long-term relief from many chronic conditions, with increased flexibility, range of movement and the ability to maintain a more active, pain-free lifestyle.
