Standard instructions:
- Welcome to the ___th monthly running of Tidal Basin 3K. We date our
start to April 1974, and we've run every month, even during the ice storm
in November 1995, first day of the Federal furlogh, the day Bill met Monica.
- Our course starts at Tourmobile stand on Ohio Drive at West Basin Drive,
at the west entrance to FDR Memorial, follows West Basin Drive to Independence Avenue,
stays on the public sidewalk on 15th Street, right at West Basin Drive past Jefferson Memorial,
north aross Tidal Inlet Bridge, up Ohio Drive back to the start.
- When you finish, you receive a card and a pencil. Please fill out the card and return it to the finish line official.
- Sometimes we have prizes or certificates; sometimes we don't.
- Every month, we need at least one designated non-runner to be our starter and hand out cards and announce times. Who can do that next month?
The Designated Non-Runner
For each monthly race, we need at least one designated non-runner (DNR).
We bring the pencils, sign-up sheets and clipboard, result cards, and a whistle.
The DNR should bring a stopwatch and anything else helpful, such as a clipboard, certificates, refreshments, cash prizes, etc.
After pre-race instructions, the DNR stands in front of the group, starts them with the whistle and a hand signal, and starts the official watch.
Then the starter retrieves the registration clipboards, pencil bag, and any personal items (we must not leave unattended items);
walks over to the finish, and sets up the cards for hand-out.
As finishers come in, the DNR calls times and hands out cards and pencils, them collect cards and sorts them by number.
The finish line works best with 3 people -- a time caller, a card-and-pencil-hander-outer, and a collector-sorter.
