Save the Children
Rote memory our road to run,
No bypass, no exit, no challenge, no fun.
We cannot read, we cannot spell.
Trained to move at the sound of the bell.
W cannot move, we cannot think.
We stand and sway at the brink
Of own disaster and the end,
Of our mind, our forever friend.
The ability to reason replaced with rhyme,
Our theatre of thought replaced by mime.
We have lost our thinking caps!
We toot our horns by playing "Taps".
Children now are sternly told
"Stay in the lines, your work's too bold.
Hemingway- his style and grace,
Is taught as an example of mistakes,
Told too early-- taught too late
Our schools have fallen from being first-rate.
I ask of Government one wish to grant,
Then I will cease to rave and rant.
Allow the children a little air,
To think, to dream, to see what's there.
Then you will see the answers arise,
To make what once was: Children that are wise,
