Mighty Sam, the guy responsible for many Belgian record sleeves, r&r posters and so much more was so kind to offer his skill to Tiki's and he made this ultra cool Invitation for the opening of Tiki's. If you wanna see what's on the backside of this flyer, just click on the picture and check his website: be amazed by his artistic view on rock 'n' roll. | ||||||||||||
THE STORY OF TIKI Following World War II, U.S. soldiers returned from the South Pacific with tales of Paradise Found: white sand beaches, sleepy lagoons, trees heavy with ripe, exotic fruits and gorgeous natives dressed only in grass ksirts, feathers and shells dancing at all-night orgies. The American imagination seized this exotic vision and integrated it into fashion, pop music, cuisine and even architecture. Everything from bars to hotel lounges adopted elements of Polynesian design. TIKI, the carved wooden or stone totems from the Pacific, found their way into many houtel lounges and suburban living rooms. Sadly the massive cultural upheaval of the late 60s brought a sudden end to this innocent islands escapism. The good news is: TIKI IS BACK! There is a nostalgic revival of the wonderfully tacky and fun gear that made TIKI style so fascinating. We can once again frequent TIKI lounges dressed in our Hawaiian shirts, listen to TIKI tunes and drink exotic, umbrella-garnished cocktails that we have ordered off menus printed in one of those super-cool TIKI typefaces. Meanwhile TIKI's in Gierle is the first TIKI-lounge in Belgium and the third in Europe after Portugal and Germany. Slim Jim succeeded to put the whole TIKI way of living in his bar thanks to TIKI designer Josh Collins, known from the "Las Vegas Grind" and "The Wild Weekend". Welcome at TIKI's. |
