CHEERS FROM BELGIUM
TIKI'S HISTORY 2000-2003
NEWSFLASH : WHAT'S UP !!!
The idea of Tiki's was born some unholy night in the year 2000.  In the end of the summer of that year I met Jim when he joined us at our Holland mini-tour with Dutronic. From that very first time I knew he was mad, lovely mad. A true madman you can but love.

And then I saw him again at the
Wild Weekend 2 Festival in Camber Sands, England, on the first weekend of November 2000 and for the first time I could see the Tiki-spirit. The caravan was decorated by a super beautiful poster declaring the opening of "The First Tiki-Lounge In Belgium".

At the end of the Wild Weekend Jim bought almost all the sculptures
Josh Collins had especially made for the festival. After buying a complete bamboo wharehouse and driving home with an overloaded truck I only could think that the utter madness was more than just a child's dream.

Josh & Babz and some tiki fairies and elves turned Café Central into Tiki's, the most beautiful café, bar, lounge, whatever you want to call it; the coolest place to be in Belgium. And maybe one of the tikiest tiki clubs of the world.

On November 30 (after hardly 3 weeks of hard labour) the grand day arrived: the opening of Tiki's on invitation only. Everyone who wasn't experiencing a near-dead situation or had to dinner with their inlaws, was present; at least the people who could find the damned little town of Gierle. I think that even now some haunted cars are still cruising around hoping to find the small place.

And on December 1 2000 it was the official opening of Tiki's for everyone in this universe.

Almost once a week there was a gig by bands from all over the world (from Japan to the USA, from Italy to Norway) and at the other days of the weekend deejays were playing their fave tunes for the visitors who always are having a hard time not to dance.

About 25 dj's have been doing their sets in the last two years, but 75% of the swinging parties were filled with the musical taste of  those "resident deejays" on the right.

I must have been deejaying at Tiki's at more than 100 nights and each one of them has a special place in my heart. While the Tiki's family has disbanded, the Tiki spirit lives on at festivals such as The Wild Weekend which is organized by the same people who created the interior of Tiki's.  Too bad Tiki's is no more, but I'll still reply any mail sent to
this address and give you any info you want.

Aloha from the dream man Slim Jim Kontiki and also ciao from me.
