The following photographs are taken from my survey of the areas surrounding the mouth of the S. Melaka during low tide.  I will welcome any comments.  Please E-mail me: <timfoo@hotmail.com>

Malacca_R_delta

This picture shows the Malacca River delta. In this survey, the beach front is divide by the river. The beach front to the north is Trenkera and Tanjung Bidara and to the south is the newly reclaimed Malacca Island and the area surrounding the Portuguese Settlement (Hilir Bandar and further on to Unjung Pasir). This is a series of photos published in the web to help anglers to select a spot for fishing.

Pay careful attention to the contours of the beach, look out for deep pits where fishes gathers to maximize your hook-up rate and reduce the number of snares or 'sangkok's.

The view to the left of A headland pointing out to the sea.  I do not know if there iss a name to this place so, for convenience I shall just call this Tanjung Taman Laksamana, or roughly translated Laksamana Point  There is what seems to be a small island to the left, it could be Pulau Upeh or just another passing ship.

If anyone is surf casting, take note of the position and location of the wreck.  There is some discarded nets in the bottom of this beach.

The locals spent lots of time collecting mussels during the lowest point of the low tide which happens about twice a month in the daytime during this period.

Another view of the area to the right of this so called Tanjung Taman Laksamana.  It shows that this spot is accessible from some nearby shophouses.  In time to come the problem of pollution will render this place void of fish.

Melaka and the reclaimed area to the South of the river.

There is a bridge linking P. Melaka to the town, currently P. Melaka is a  favorite spot for the local fishos.  On the foreground to the right side of the picture shows the location of the pay pond.

This is a shallow straits between Malacca Island and the mainland.  Plaza Melaka Raya is in the background.  In this area of water, like most of theMalaccan coast  mud sippers abound.  One could think of the straits as a bay if reclamation seals up the northern end of the channel.

Melaka_Is

Malacca Island is link to the mainland by a bridge. Note the deep channel where the surface texture of the water is different.

On the northern side of the Portuguese Square is a mangrove swamp, very rich in wild life.  The jetty in the background has been abandon and left to fall apart by itself.
