Although the latest F1 was completed at the end of 1997 it still stands as the fastest and most sophisticated road car available on the planet. This is in itself an incredible achievement for the McLaren F1( although perhaps not for long with the-oddly named- Koenigsegg and Buggati Veyron not far over the horizon). In the beginning 300 F1's were planned but with its ultra light, yet hugely expensive carbon-fibre body and a tasty £530,000 price tag it ended up with just 100 being produced. Only 10 of these models found British buyers with the remaining 90 being sold abroad. Power came from a 627bhp V12 engine designed especially for the F1 by BMW Motorsport. The F1 experienced great success at the Le Mans, winning on its first time out in 1995, with other F1's coming in third, fourth, fifth and thirteenth. The McLren F1 is a simply amazing super car, possibly the best of its kind in the world... ever. This car stopped nations in their tracks, made jaws drop in shock and blew people of their feet at the race track. And, best of all... it's a Brit! |
Did you Know? * The F1 has a central driving position and scissor doors * Viewers of the ' Top Gear ' motoring programme voted the F1 as the second greatest car in the world, ever. (Narrowily beaten by the Land Rover... yes I know a Land Rover... just don't ask!!) |
