Molded Products

The Molded Products company began in 1941 as a response to the gap being left in the toy industry by the war effort of WWII. The manufacturers of toy soldiers had been using lead and other metals or rubber to produce their figures. With the onset of the war these supplies dried up and the toy manufacturers often began producing war products. The founders of Molded Products realized this, and filled the gap by producing toy soldiers of composition.

The processed used was to combine wood flour, starch, whiting, and water into a dough. It was then pressed into a mold using hydraulics. The figures were stuck on nails to dry, leaving a hole in the base which often goes into the crotch of the figure. The company produced about 17 different figures and animals, with some having multiple variations over the production period.

After the war, the other toy soldier manufacturers came back into play, and the use of plastic increased greatly. The Molded Products Company was out of business by 1946.
