Organizational History:

24 May 1893: Redesignated 'The Royal Canadian Dragoons', from 'Canadian Dragoons'.
1 September 1939: Regiment was placed on active service.
?? July 1940: The HQ and one Squadron, along with the HQ and one Squadron from Lord Strathcona's Horse, were used to form '1st Canadian Motorcycle Regiment (RCD/LSH (RC))'.
21 September 1940: '1st Canadian Motorcycle Regiment (RCD/LSH (RC))' was renamed 'Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians). Upon this change, 'The Royal Canadian Dragoons (Armoured Car Regiment)' was mobilized.
15 November 1940: 'The Royal Canadian Dragoons (Armoured Car Regiment)' was assigned to the Canadian Armoured Corps.
11 February 1940: The regiment was renamed '1st Armoured Car Regiment  (Royal Canadian Dragoons)'.
5 January 1941: Assigned to 1st Canadian Armoured Division (later 5th Canadian Armoured Division).
?? January 1942: Assigned to 1st Canadian Corps.
?? July 1944: Assigned to Ist Canadian Infantry Division.
?? March 1945: Re-assigned to 1st Canadian Corps.
January 1946: The unit remained on active service.
