ACTIVITIES

As Lions, we are part of the International Association of Lions Clubs which has a multitude of projects and programs to help others.  We are also one of the clubs which make up the Oklahoma Lions Club, whose main projects are the Oklahoma Lions Boys Ranch in Perkins which provides stable homes for boys who have been neglected or abused, the Oklahoma Lions Eye Bank which retrieves and transplants corneas to save the sight of over 14,000 Oklahomans and counting, and the Oklahoma Mobile Health Service Unit which is a mobile screening clinic which local clubs use to screen people for numerous health problems.

Our local club's main ongoing projects are sponsoring the local Boy and Cub Scout Troops and honoring a Senior of the Month from one of our county high schools.  We purchase eyeglasses for school children and others who need them and have exhausted other available funding, and we donate money as we are able to other people and groups in need.

We collect used eyeglasses and donate them to the Oklahoma Lions Club, which in turn sends them all over the world to be used by people who can be helped by them.

Our club is proud of being the organization which restarted the Little League Summer Baseball and Softball program.  We managed the program and saw it grow to 50 teams and over 600 children until it became umanageble with a volunteer labor force.  The program is now coordinated through the Johnston County Sports Complex, which was constructed with the assistance of many groups and individuals, including our club.

In the past we spearheaded efforts to get the community involved to purchase the "Jaws of Life" for the Tishomingo Fire Department and the helipad at Johnston Memorial Hospital.

To fund all these programs, we pay yearly dues and have fundraiser events.  We sell aluminum cans which are donated to trailers at Sooner Foods and Tishomingo Golf Course.  We have an annual Spaghetti Supper in conjuntion with the Chamber of Commerce Food Show and Cake Auction.

As you can see, we are busy and we can use some help.  If you are a concerned, involved citizen who resides in Johnston County, please join our organization and help us make a difference.
