Who is Timothy R. King?

Timothy R. King is a professional actor, singer, dancer, and playwright in the Washington, DC area.  He has performed at The National Theatre, Arena Stage, Wolftrap, The Folger Theatre, The Supreme Court, The Library of Congress, The Clairidge Hotel & Casino (Atlantic City), The Grand Hotel (Cape May, New Jersey), The Warehouse Theater, The "H" Street Playhouse, Burn Brae Dinner Theatre, Lazy Susan Dinner Theatre, Parallax Theatre at the Fifth Column, Adventure Theatre, Maryland Ensemble Theatre, The Fun Company, Gunston Arts Center, DCAC, Washington County Playhouse, Frederick's Council for the Arts, The Memorial Auditiorium at the National Naval Medical Center, The National Arts Club in New York City, and countless area schools and libraries.
In the Children's Theatre arena, he has been a company member of Library Theatre, Adventure Theatre's In-School Players, and Acting Llama Drama Company.
His play, Snow, like, White and the Dwarf was produced in two separate productions at Adventure Theatre: an in-house production and as a touring production, both directed by John Sciaretto.  This play, in a new, expanded form, cast with twenty-four actors, aged six to twelve, was directed by the author at Reston Community Center for Young Actors' Theatre in August, 2002. It was also presented, in an even more expanded form, at Irving Middle School in November 2002, also directed by the author. His original adult play, Lance and the Fam, was performed at MET, produced by MET-X. Some of his other plays have received non-professional productions. Music of the Night was presented as a staged reading at University of Maryland, directed by and starring the author.  Dance with the Shadows received first a staged reading at Kittamamquandi Theatre in Columbia, starring the author and directed by Julie Pearl, and was subsequently recast and redirected by the author as part of University of Maryland's Poor Theatre Program.  The following year, also with the University of Maryland's Poor Theatre program, he co-directed his one-act, Through the Mind's Eye, with Nancy Arnold.
He completed his studies at American University, earning his Master's of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education with a focus area in Theatre. He is a full-time Theatre Arts teacher at Washington Irving Middle School in Fairfax County. He worked as make-up consultant on Washington Shakespeare Company's production of Jean Genet's The Maids and Catalyst Theatre Company's Endgame by Samuel Beckett. He designed the make-up for Catalyst's 1984.

He was a company member of Maryland Ensemble Theatre.

He appeared in and also contributed to the book of Planet Claire, MET's newest musical, incorporating music by the B-52's, from April 18 to June 5, 2003. Last summer (2003), he starred as Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch at Maryland Ensemble Theatre, from June 20 to July 26.

He appeared as Jack Point in Gilbert and Sullivan's Yeomen of the Guard with Washington Savoyards, November 6-9, 2003 at Duke Ellington School for the Performing Arts in Northwest Washington, DC. Last season, he performed in two holiday shows: A Christmas Carol, a co-production of The Fun Company and Maryland Ensemble Theatre, in which he played multiple roles, including the Ghost of Christmas Present, and The Eight: Reindeer Monologues with MET-X, where he played the inimitable Cupid. In January 2004, he directed The Wiz and in June, he directed Alice in Wonderland, both at Washington Irving Middle School.
Summer '04 was a busy one. Baltimore Theatre Project presented Planet Claire from June 24 until July 10. Timothy was represented as a contributing author only, because he performed in another show at that time. That show was Anything Goes with Renegade Theatre at the Warehouse Theatre in Washington, DC. The role was Billy Crocker. Also this summer, his short play Two People was given a wonderful production at Cedar Lane Stage, directed by Brian Crane. He finished the summer by playing Albin/ZaZa in La Cage Aux Folles with Renegade Theatre, one of the last theatre companies to secure the rights before the show headed back to Broadway.

La Cage, with Jeff Obermiller.

He directed The Ghost of Canterville Hall, the "legendary cult-rock musical" Starmites, and the Advanced Theatre Arts Appreciation class' original play, Fairy Tales Gone Wild at Washington Irving Middle School last school year (2004-05).

Summer 2005 was busy, as well. He appeared as Ginger (yes, Ginger) in Gilligan's Island: The Musical with Landless Theatre at DCAC (Adams Morgan). Then, he appeared as "The Director" in Lisa Voss' new play, Ninja Motorcycle Babes, with Renegade Theatre at the "H" Street Theatre. Finally, he played Renfield in the world premiere of the rock musical, Vlad Dracula. The production of Gilligan's Island: The Musical also moved to Frederick, MD for three more performances. What a double feature that was!

Vlad Dracula and Gilligan's Island: The Musical. "How long do I have to change?"
One unforgettable double-bill.

Vlad Dracula moved to the D.C. area, where it was a D.C. City Paper pick. He is currently a member of the Acting Ensemble of Landless Theatre Company. With Landless, he contributed to the script of Mistress and appeared in the late night offering Carrie Potter at the Half-Blood Prom. Both shows ran at DCAC from February through March, 2006.

He directed The King and I at Irving Middle School in April, 2006. He also directed the two Advanced classes' final productions: The Princess Plays and the original I Know What You Did Last Channel in June, 2006.

In summer of 2006, with Landless Theatre Company, he appeared as Chicklet in Psycho Beach Party at Playbill Cafe. The show was a City Paper pick. He followed this with a return to his favorite role, Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch with Musical Theatre Factory in Frederick, Maryland.

After Hedwig, he and Landless Theatre presented the Washington, DC premiere of Trey Parker's Cannibal: The Musical, which sold out every performance, which prompted a single encore performance on December 22, with special guest judge Lloyd Kaufman, founder of Troma Entertainment. October 2006 marked a return to another favorite role: Frank N Furter in Rocky Horror Show presented by Musical Theatre Factory. RHS was performed October 20-22 and October 27 through 31 at the Frederick County Cultural Arts Center. The new musical for children, Beatrice! or Boogsnot and the Disco Dancing Meltdown of the Snows performed at the Venus Play Shack in Laurel, Maryland through the month of May.

In summer of 2007, he appeared in two shows for The 2nd Fringe Festival in Washingtopn, DC. He appeared as Christopher Marlowe, the Agent, and Scooter the intern in Night of Living Theatre... by Dead Playwrights (at the Goethe Institute) and was also featured as Billy the Official in Lysistration (at The Warehouse Theatre Mainstage).

From October 3 to November 4, he played Paul Sheldon in Misery by Stephen King at NobleHeart Theatre.

In 2008, he did a variety of staged readings and played Carmen Ghia in The Producers with American Music Stage.

  Now Playing and Opening Soon:

He has been cast as Tracy in When ET Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, a musical in the workshop stage.
