RAILFAN REPORT

I did a little railfaning on my way home from work stopping at IC Xing and Johnston Yard in Memphis TN.  Here is what I saw.

IC  X-ING

I arrived at the Kentucky Street crossing around 3:15PM just as the tornado sirens began to blare. At 3:20PM an eastbound UP RWSX Coal train arrived for the Norfolk Southern behind UP #6698 and SP #275.

UP #7181 brings up the rear of the train as the DPU. These two shots were taken from inside my Jeep as the rain was coming down pretty hard.

As the coal train was passing this westbound UP freight behind UP #6643 and 4215 crept up just east of IC Crossing.

At 4:00PM BNSF coal train with DEGX cars swings on to the IC with the Memphis skyline behind the three SD70MACS.

The three SD70MACS on the train were #s 9520, 9485, and 8836.

The coal train heads south towards rough weather on the IC just south of IC X-ing.

JOHNSTON YARD

IC switchers #1477 & 1496 were working Johnston yard when I arrived about 5:15PM.

At the IC/CSX Intermodal terminal were these two big GE's CSX #'s 667 & 696. I was then stopped by a Railroad policeman who was very friendly, just curious as to what I was up to.  He just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to cross any tracks which I told him I would not do anyway. I then headed home.
