RAILFAN REPORT

Railfaned the Yazoo District south of Memphis and checked out Johnston Yard. Then checked out Bridge Jct. and IC Xing near downtown Memphis TN with a friend of mine. This is what we saw on a windy day in the Midsouth.

11:10AM:  After waiting for a little over an hour our first train was IO1-11 the southbound Intermodal at the curve in Walls Mississippi.

Power for the train was IC3124, IC3138, & IC3139.

11:20AM:  Walls MS. IO4-11 a northbound intermodal rolls through the curve.

Power for IO4-11 was:
IC3119, IC3115, IC3120, GTW6224

11:30AM:  Lakeview MS.  We caught another shot of IO4-11 at the track split.

11:40AM:  Johnston Yard  We arrived at Joneston Yard and recieved permission to check out the roundhouse and fueling racks.

IC 6008 was one of the several units in the roundhouse having work done.

IC4602, IC4629, IC3135, IC3112, IC3103, IC3114, IC6109, IC3136, IC3137, IC3110, CN4013, GTW 5819.

Also spotted these two old CNW units: 4602 & 4629 coupled to a string of IC locos.

12:20PM:  IC Xing   Next it was on to downtown Memphis where we caught this UP APL doublestack swinging on to the IC at IC Xing with UP5521 & UP3497.

12:50PM:  Bridge Jct. Ark.
Just as we arrived at Bridge Jct. on the Arkansas side of the Mississippi River we caught Santa Fe 504 & BNSF 4535 leading this Birmingham to San Bernardino doublestack.

1:00PM:  Bridge Jct. Ark.
A few minutes later SSW7622 & UP242 crossed the diamond and rejoined their train the Memphis to Winn Ark. local.

2:15PM: IC Xing Memphis TN.
Heading back over to the Tenn. side of the river we viewed NS8923 with a train waiting for a crew.

3:00PM:  IC Xing TN.
The crew has arrived and the NS8923 departs for BNSFs River Sub and St.Louis Missouri.

3:15PM:  IC Xing TN.
A few minutes later NS9297, NS8531, BN3412, & ATSF2444 arrive with a load of autoracks.

3:20PM: IC Xing TN.
The locomotives cut off the train of autoracks and switch on to an adjoining track. It was then time to head home.
