Here is the world famous Bronx Zoo. It first opened its gates to the public on November 8, 1899. On a recent list of America's best zoos, The Bronx Zoo was omitted!
The article explained that it was in a class by itself and so was too good for the list!

One of the oldest and largest botanical gardens in the world, The New York Botanical Garden in Bronx is a museum of plants and a National Historic Landmark with 250 acres of gorgeous grounds, 48 gardens and plant collections. Also it has 40-acres of the Forest that once covered all of New York, and the spectacular Enid A. Haupt Conservatory.

This is the 4000 seat theater, the Loew's Paradise on the Grand Concourse.
The Grand Concourse, four and one-half miles long and one hundred eighty feet wide is the widest avenue in the United States.
It is eleven car lanes wide.

Edgar Allen Poe, lived his final years in this small, 1812 wooden farmhouse, on the Grand Concourse. It was saved from demolition when in 1913, the city acquired the building and moved it to Poe Park, at 2460 Grand Concourse. It was in this cottage that Poe's beloved wife, Virginia, died and where he penned "Annabel Lee," "The Bells," and "Ulalume."
