German (Walther) P-38/P-1 | ||||||||
After WWII was over, the German army had been dissolved, but they still needed sidearms for their police. Many veterans had expressed their satisfaction with the original wartime P38 design. And so, in the 1950s, the German government contracted with Walther to produce the post-war version, the P-38/P-1. It is essentially a P-38, built on an alloy frame. It is lighter than the original P-38 but retains pretty much the same exact design. It was the standard police issue sidearm. This particular example is dated 1958, and is representative of fine German workmanship. Even though the P-38/P-1 is not C&R eligible at this time, it does have historical significance. It has a black parkerized-type finish with plastic grips, and came with an original German leather police holster. |
