Torii Station

Looking out at the Torii Station main gate: April '64. The base was closed due to an Okinawan People's Party demonstration which was underway.

O.P.P. Demonstators marching in front of Torii Station, April '64 (some things never change). The guy in the sneakers bringing up the rear appears to be having a good time.

Look familiar? It should! Those two unassuming quonsets housed the beloved Torii Station Annex where some of us spent a lot of time between those eves, days & mids.

Looking down the hill toward JSPC from the 2nd deck of the NSG barracks. That's the chow hall (mess hall to you army guys) at right center, JSPC at left center. Antenna field middle and East China Sea beyond.

Looking down at Torii Station from the off-base housing across the street.

Home, sweet home!

An old photo of the antenna array at Hanza, which is just up the hill from Torii Station. The Hanza site, which is near the village of Yomitan, has recently been in the news, as local farmers have protested the military presence in Okinawa and want the land returned to them.
