Nuriko is introduced pretty early in the series within the Royal court with Emperor Hotohori of Konan. Thought at first to be a female Suzaku seishi so she can easily relate with, Miaka Yuuki approaches her at first and tries to befriend Nuriko but found out it was hard to win her friendship at first. For Nuriko thought Miaka was taking Emperor Hotohori away from her and keeping him for herself, thankfully this silly jealousy between Nuriko and Miaka are resolved as Nuriko later finds out from Miaka that she wasn't interested in Emperor Hotohori. Miaka then finds love with Tamahome although that never stopped Emperor Hotohori for still loving Miaka even though he knows that Miaka doesn't exactly feel the same way for him. Nuriko is also revealed to be MALE later on in the series, there's a tragic story included with how he became the way he is now. When Nuriko was young a tragic accident happened to his younger sister named Kourin. Nuriko loved her very much and one day while the two were crossing a street and little Kourin trying her best to catch up to her older brother gets trampled to death by horses before Nuriko's eyes. In remembering her death Nuriko dresses up as a female in memory of Kourin. *sniffs*
Miaka Yuuki 
Miaka is a student of Toritsu Daisan JR. High school, which with her best friend Yui Hongo attends. The two friends start their unlikely adventure when Yui needs to return a book to the National Library where Miaka is suddenly thirsty for a drink so she goes to the vending machine on the ground floor where she proceeds to put yen into it when off to the corner of her eye she sees a red phoenix going up the stairs but after blinking the phoenix disappears. Intriguing Miaka's curiosity she drags her best friend Yui along to go and investigate what she saw and they find themselves going into a restricted room labeled Important Foreign Documents Room. As Miaka and Yui walk into the room a book suddenly falls onto the floor titled "Jin Ten Chi Sho" which translates to "The Universe of the Four Gods, Sky and Earth". The two more curious than ever sits comfortably on the floor and opens the book to read and thus is how our heroine Miaka is born as both Miaka and Yui enter the world of Fushigi Yuugi. Miaka is incredibly silly and hardly takes much seriously even between life and death situations she always thinks food first. Though she can be silly at times she does know when things are grim and she takes it to the extreme, in example of this is when she gets trapped as a test if she was truly the Suzako no Miko she breaks a piece of glass and proceeds to stab herself in hopes of killing the clone that was her on the outside of the object she was stuck in. Oh yeah if I didn't mention already Miaka loves to eat, in one episode she takes Tasuki's magical white paper that transforms into whatever things that is written on it and writes not weapons but food items on it instead. Miaka at first meeting of Tamahome instantly thinks of him a jerk for how he uses her to his benefit, mainly cash as we notice that Tamahome sells off her bubblegum sticks that he gets from Miaka. As the series goes on we see a deeper meaning behind what Tamahome does and soon Miaka understands slowly but surely falling in love with him at the same time. Miaka early in the series is really naive but as the series moves on we catch glimpses of how she's slowly maturing and learning as she grows into a woman. Learning responsibilities, dealing with things and coping with love and loss at the same time is a lot especially not of her own world. The romance between Miaka and Tamahome I think is definitely one of the best things of Fushigi Yuugi and though they are annoying at first to watch them say constantly "Tamahome" and "Miaka" I can't really blame them for always saying each other's name, I think he says it to make sure she's still with him and she says it to reconfirm he's really with her in the real world... after all he is a fictional character.
A distinctive flute sound is heard, killing the bats that was suddenly attacking Miaka, Tasuki, and Hotohori in "Episode 17: The Meloday of a Meeting" a young boy approaches and explains how he's able to adjust his chi through his flute to kill. He suddenly collapses leaving Miaka to comfort him along with the rest of the Suzaku seishi and they soon find a character on him which identifies him to be the last Suzaku Seishi Chiriko. Chiriko is a Suzaku seishi that plays a flute and is often heard playing lovely music to comfort those that are sick or have too much on their mind. Miaka and Nuriko are often with Chiriko just hearing and enjoying him play his flute while the two just relaxes in random chit chat. Little to everyone's notice is that in their excitement of thinking they found Chiriko, Chiriko isn't the real Chiriko it's in fact one of the Seiryuu Seishis Amiboshi posing as Chiriko. For the real Chiriko is a young scholar who is the last Suzaku Seishi that they do find just after the summoning of Suzaku is ruined by Amiboshi by his flute. Amiboshi although succeed in ruining the ceremony of the summoning failed to kill the Suzaku Seishi as his flute is suddenly disrupted by another tune forcing him to make a run to escape. The Suzaku Seishi soon corners Amiboshi before a river asking questions why and blaming him for it. Amiboshi backing slowly from the constant questions from Miaka and everyone soon fell into the rushing river to his death. Miaka whom trusted Chiriko is at first shocked but even after she finds out that Chiriko is indeed Amiboshi she still thinks he has a good heart, for she says that no one that evil can play such lovely good music through a flute. They all return to hear the same tune playing that saved their lives and truly found the 7th Suzaku Seishi Chiriko.
Yui is Miaka's best friend since childhood, she's the stronger of the two for Miaka is the one who usually leans on her shoulders and depends on Yui more than Yui depends on Miaka. Yui is also the smarter of the two if you couldn't tell already that pretty much Yui keeps Miaka in check for homework and the like at school, that is how Miaka and Yui pretty much got together as friends. I also think because Yui is an only child so she's pretty much alone and enjoys Miaka's company and holds onto their friendship in also keeping their promise in going to the same high school which is Jonan high School together after they pass the entrance exams. Yui gets dragged into the same book along with Miaka the "Jin Ten Chi Sho" where she and Miaka both meet Tamahome for the first time saving them from the local road bandits whom they first meet when entering the book world known as ancient China. Yui unfortunately disappears shortly after being saved and is sent back to her world Tokyo, Japan where she surprisingly reads in the book back in the library all that has just transpired and continues to read. Yui doesn't return to book until much later when Miaka is suddenly returned to her world in the library, finds that Yui isn't with her so she gets worried and calls the Yui's residence to see if she has returned. Yui has been sent back to the book but this time she's in Kotou country in a different part of China than that of their first journey into the book. Yui wasn't so fortunate in landing where she landed this time around for there was no one to protect her for as she wandered around wondering where she is a gang of bandits caught her and raped her before being rescued. After suiciding because she let herself be raped she was then surprised to be quite alive and healed by a person whom supposedly was in the area. This person is none other than Nakago the shogun of the Kotou country who claims that all this happened because of what Miaka did, as words sunk between stories spoken by Nakago Yui starts to blame Miaka for her landing in this country and being raped. In anger and totally trusting of Nakago she agrees to become the Seiryuu no Miko to kill Miaka.
Name: Kaen Haku
Soi being the only female seishi is introduced in the later half of the series of Fushigi Yuugi where we see her come in cloaked to save Suboshi's hide after Tamahome goes on a berserk rage when he finds that his family has been slaughtered for revenge of Amiboshi. Not much is known about her as she's so mysterious throughout pretty much of the series. What is known is through rather her influences and a bit of history from other people that has been in contact with her directly. Soi's origin is that she was raised rather poor and mistreated to the point where her parents sold her off for prostitution at the age of 8. After 3 years of being a prostitute in the Kutou country she's grown to a young age of 11 she tries to flee from her owner but fails. Her owner proceeds to yell and is ready to beat her but luck was on her side today for Nakago the Kutou country's shogun was around and protected Soi from being hit then beats the shit out of him took her in to take care of himself. Soi besides being able to control lightning has a talent in bed with men, after so many years of prostitution she learns Bouu-chuu Justu magic a spell that raises or lowers a person's chi by having sexual intercourse a thing she does often with Nakago. For Soi her love and loyalty to her saviour Nakago is never questioned for she does as he asks even when she doesn't even do the things she asked to do normally cause she loves Nakago that much to willingly do as she's told even if it's evil and cruel. Not a lot of people understand the relationship that is between Soi and Nakago for sure, I've heard that they are silent lovers or perhaps Nakago keeps her around as an object? From what I can tell, Nakago does care for Soi in more ways than one, they keep their feelings of each other closed so that no one can use that weakness against them. Another thing I noticed is that Soi after being a prostitute so long has closed off her expressions of love thus from that she can only express how she feels with her body and not of her heart for she was never given those feelings of love from her parents. That's pretty much her history that is given through the series between the people she's around, she's definitely one of those tragic misunderstood females.
