Well, this is the "ME" page, so I guess I shall tell you about myself. First of all, my name is Tommy Stovall and I live in Rockingham NC. I am now 23 years old and currently a senior music education major at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. I am a brother of the Eta Beta Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, a national music fraternity on campus. I have served as Fraternity Education Officer, Warden, and as Vice President of this organization. I graduated from Richmond Senior High School in 1999 where I was a member of the Marching Raiders for 5 years. I marched in the baritone line and was the low brass section leader my senior year.
My favorite hobby is music. I enjoy listening, playing, and creating it. I am an avid drum and bugle corps fan and have an extensive collection of CD's, video tapes, and DVD's. I have marched 3 years of competitive drum and bugle corps on 3 different levels. I began marching with a Division 3 corps based out of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, named The Marquis. We had nearly 30 members and basically put together a show in 2 weeks. Although we were small and very untalented, we accomplished things that most corps could only dream of in such a short period of time. Financial difficulties forced Marquis to fold after our summer tour, so I decided to try my hand with a Division 1 corps. Along with my friend Avery Watkins, who marched with me both in high school and with Marquis, I decided to audition with Carolina Crown. We spent our summer of 1999 touring the US with one of the finest drum corps in the world, and in August, we finished in 11th place on Finals night! Not too bad for some of us who had such humble beginnings. I never marched junior drum and bugle corps again after that summer. I had a few opportunities to march with some great corps in 2000 and 2001, but my personal life got in the way on both occasions. In the summer of 2003 a few of my fraternity brothers from college decided to march with a senior drumcorps based out of the Raleigh/Durham area, Carolina Gold. I still had a nagging itch to go march so I joined the corps in June and filled in a baritone spot. Senior corps is a lot of fun but requires a lot of work. Rehearsing only on the weekends makes it somewhat more challenging, however the reward of performing again without having to sacrifice so much personal time made it an ideal choice for me.
Drum corps is by far the most rewarding experience that I have ever had. I encourage anyone, whether they play a brass instrument or not, to at least consider doing it once.
