FUEL PUMP AND LINES
The kit includes an inline electric fuel pump.
The plastic filter goes before the pump, and the metal one comes after
the pump. Holley recommends using
better quality gas after installing their fuel injection.
The frame rail makes a good place to mount the electric fuel pump.
It needs to be mounted below the lowest point of the fuel tank.
Simple rubber spacers keep it quiet.
(view: above rear axle) The stock fuel lines need to be altered.
A return line of at least 5/16 diameter is required. The return line on
my mechanical fuel pump was only 1/4inch, but my vapor lines from the charcoal
canister
are 5/16 inch. The vapor line goes
through a vapor separator called a standpipe. Three vapor lines from the
tank connect to the standpipe.
Holley doesn’t recommend using vapor lines for the fuel return line because
they were not intended to carry fuel and many have a restriction at the tank.
I tested for a restriction with a tube and was able to push it into the
tank. After careful inspection I
decided to use the vapor return line as my fuel return line.
A little work with the tube bender and the vapor line
becomes a fuel return line. The gas
tank needs to be vented or pressure will build up in the tank and cause fuel
leaks. I left the vapor end of the standpipe open so that pressure can
escape from the tank. It may be a good idea to install a small filter on
the end of it to keep any grit from getting in
the tank.
