My '76 Nova

This is my current car in the works.  It's a 1976 Nova Concours and came with velour interior and fully loaded.  It was my grandparents car originally, and after my grandfather passed away the car sat in the garage for many years because my grandmother had never learned to drive.  I actually started teaching her to drive in this very car.

For a compact sized car from the mid 70s, it came from the factory with all the bells and whistles.    V8, AC, cruise control, tilt steering, power brakes, sway bars, sport mirrors, AM/FM stereo, power windows and door locks, velour interior, delay wipers, rear window defogger and lots of other goodies.  Believe it or not, the car is 27 years old and everything still works.

The body remained pretty straight and looked decent, except for the paint that had worn down to the primer.  I got the car back from the paint shop, and it looks like a totally different car.  I decided to go with a burnt orange color that was used by Chevrolet in 1972.  When I was a kid, we had a Chevelle wagon and an El Camino that were both that same color.  I've been driving a white van and a black Nova for a long time now.  I needed something with a bit of color again.

The Before Picture

This was my car before I took it in to be painted.  When the car was new, it had lots of aluminum trim all over the place which had become dull and pitted over time.  I removcd most of it when I got the car.  Over the summer of 2000, I made a 327 out of a 4 bolt main 350 that I de-stroked, and replaced the original 305 that came from the factory.  I had also replaced the original wheels wiht some factory sport wheels that I got off of a Z28 Camaro..  They're the same style wheels that came on the SS or Rally Nova, but 8" wide. With some 60 series tires, the car handles a lot better now.  I've also replaced the carpet, replaced the original bench seat with some buckets out of a 2000 Firebird.
