Test #2 Take Home Format; Distributed 3/15/01 Answer all 4 questions. Make your answers as SPECIFIC AND DETAILED AS POSSIBLE. I prefer that your answers be typed, but that is not mandatory. This test is due IN CLASS on Thursday, March 29. 1. What differences arose between the American colonies and Great Britain leading up to the Revolutionary War? Be sure to describe all of the economic, social, cultural and political differences, not just TAXES. 2. Describe American government under the Articles of Confederation. What specific problems did the government have under the Articles? What were some of the limitations of the Articles, and how did these limitations affect people and the ability of the Continental Congress to function? 3. What were the principal controversies that arose at the Constitutional Convention (1787), and how EXACTLY was each controversy resolved? To what extent was the new constitution a democratic document? To what extent was the constitution undemocratic (give SPECIFIC examples). 4. What were the economic, social and political tensions that arose during the Washington and Adams administrations (1789-1801)? Who were the principal protagonists, and what were their views about the direction of the country and the role of the newly created federal government? How were various disputes settled?
