The second test(10/19) will cover chapters 5-8 in the textbook and classes through 10/17. The test will consist of 25 multiple choice and true/false questions and 5 short essays (you will have a choice of 3 out of 4, and a mandatory primary source essay). For the multiple choice and true/false section, I urge you to look at the questions for each chapter under textbook resources. Although I may change the wording of a particular question, most of the 25 questions on the test will come from the textbook site. As for the essays, you should be able to do each of the following (these are objectives, not actual test questions): 1. You should be able to explain the difference that arose between the American colonies and Great Britain leading up to the Revolutionary War. IF YOU ANSWER THIS QUESTION BY ONLY REFERRING TO TAXES, YOU WILL NOT DO WELL. Be sure to describe all of the economic, social, cultural and political differences, and with regard to these difference, BE SPECIFIC. 2. You should be able to describe some of the problems faced by the United States during and immediately after the Revolutionary War. What were some of the limitations (BE SPECIFIC) of the Articles of Confederation, and how did those limitations affect people? 3. You should be able to identify the principal issues at the Constitutional Convention (1787), and explain (BE SPECIFIC) how these issues were resolved. For example, don't just say that there was a dispute over slavery; what precisely were the issues, and what specific parts of the constitution were intended to address those issues? 4. You should be able to articulate how the writers of the constitution felt about democracy, and to explain how the constitution that was agreed upon reflected their views. BE SPECIFIC; identify parts of the constitution that were either democratic or undemocratic. 5. You should be able to describe the tensions that arose during the Washington and Adams administrations (1789-1801). Who were the principal protagonists, and what were their views about the direction of the country and the role of the newly created national government? BE SPECIFIC. How were various disputes resolved? 6. (MANDATORY QUESTION) You should be able to analyze one or more primary sources and relate the information contained in those sources to broader issues raised in the readings or in class. This time, most of you will need to be MUCH MORE DETAILED than last time. Hint: Jefferson and Native Americans. |
