Johann Heinrich Thurn's name is " Verwalter des Sayner Abteihofes auf'm Stromberg" above that is handwritten" administrator of the lauded (or landed)
estate (farm in Stromberg belonging to the Abbey of Sayn. In Friedel Kaesberg's
1983 letter she stated that no one had heard of the Kaesberg name prior to
Adolf Kaesberg & did not know where he came from. It is my belief that he came from Sayn and was also an administrator for the Catholic Church or for the Abbey.

I have spelled surnames as Kaesberg but Archives books spells it various ways: Kessberg; Keesbergh; Kasberg. This was explained by Frau Gauer that
the ministers did not have written papers but took the name as it was spoken to them at the baptisms & so the minister would spell it as he heard it.

Adam Schmitz (who was an Administrator for the estate (farm) in Meysenhof,
Germany for the Abbey of Sayn. Adam Schmitz was married to Gertrud
Girmscheid. married 7-14-1680. Adam died 6-17-1703 and Gertrud died 4-20-1723
Ludwig/s grandparents were: Johann Schmitz and Agnes Thurn. Agnes died
4-26-1671 and Johann died 4-4-1725. Johann married a second time to Ida
Freisberg, ancestor of Anna Catherine Schmitz who married Adolf Kaesberg.
Agnes Thurn's father was Johann Heinrich Thurn who was administrator of the estate (farm) in Stromberg belonging to the Abbey of Sayn. Johann Schmitz
was the son of Johann Schmitz who died 3-4-1682. He also was an adminis-
trator in Stromberg

I wrote to Frau Rita Gauer in Trier, Germany who does research and who did some for me on the Kaesberg/Kasberg family. I mentioned that in her notes she had the name written at times as Kasberg, sometimes Keesburg and then as
Kaesberg but it would all be on the same family. She said she took the names out of the archives as they were written. The acting ministers would enter the surnames in the books after hearing the surnames. There were no papers to copy from, just word of mouth and he wrote it as he heard it. Therefore Keesberg
Kesberg, Kasberg all developed from Kaesberg.
Some of the information from Adolf Kaesberg down to Rudolph Keesberg was
sent by Friedel Kaesberg of West Germany on 7-26-1983 and it also tied in with what Kathy Schonder & I had copied in the Archives at Trier, Germany

In Germany the name of Kaesberg was spelled Kasberg. Simon Kasberg and his family lived in the village of Sayn. Approximately 100 years ago, Sayn was joined with the village of Landkreis but today it is joined with Bendorf and is named Bendorf-Sayn. It is located near the town of Koblenz, which is on the Rhine River and located in the State of Rhein, Germany. Today the major industries of Bendorf-Sayn, located in a wooded area of 1500 trees, consists of iron refining, quarrying, and building various types of machinery. It has mon-
uments, including that of the old molding industry, which according to the Burgermeister, date back to the "middle ages", which would be 400AD-1400AD.
Since Simon's son, Wilhelm grew to be a molder by trade, perhaps he was familiar with the molding monuments.

I wrote Frau Gauer asking about the various spellings of the surname because at times it would be written as Keesberg, Kasberg or Kaesberg all in the same paragraph and about the same people. She answered saying the various acting ministers wrote down the surnames as he heard it. There were no papers for him to copy the correct spelling and therefore the various spellings all developed from Kaesberg.

The Norma was a bark, a 3 masted sailing vessel, square-rigged on the fore and main masts and fore-and-aft on the mizzen, and was built by the shipwright Hermann Friedrich Ulrichs, of Vegesack/F"ahr, in 1851, for the Bremen firm of Konitzky & Thiermann. Simon Kasberg was born and baptised on March 20, 1845. His godparents were: Simon Kasberg and Elisabeth Schenk. Wilhelm and his family first
went to Indianapolis. There we lost Simon, called Peter, and Johann called
John. From city directories in the library at Indianapolis the first mention of the Kasberg name was in the 1865 directory and again in 1867 and 1868:

Joseph Kasberg, residing at 71 Hosbrook, bookbinder at 71 W. Washington.
In November, 1968 I contacted the two Kasbergs residing at that time in In-
dianapolis: S. G. Kasberg, 4144 Ruckles St and her son, R.H. Kasberg, 5261
Roxbury Road.
Mrs. S.G. Kasberg stated her husbands father was Joseph Kasberg and was a
brother to Wilhelm Kasberg, the father of Frederich Adolph. It is possible that Joseph's father is Simon. Joseph Kasberg's father had 4 children: Will, who moved to Lawrenceberg, Indiana; Anna, who moved to Covington, Ky. but came back to Indianapolis prior to her death; Matt who became a grocer in Indianapolis and Joseph. All four are now deceased. Mrs. S.G. Kasberg said that she remembers her husband's father, Joseph, saying his uncle, his father's brother, changed his name to Kaesberg and moved from Indiana. She said the family never heard of the Kaesbergs until many years ago, Frank Kaesberg came from Chicago, while working for the railroad and called on them. Latter Pauline and Charles came to visit and then Frank brought back his wife, Edith,
to visit. I have contacted the Indiana State Library and they state no official birth or death records were kept in Indiana prior to 1882. They do have micro-
film records from 1820 to 1880 and some copies of the Marion County records.
I will try and get information from them in the future.

She was born July 11, 1854 in Dutch Hill, Illinois, and died July 30, 1897 in New Athens, Illinois.

Notes for FREDERICH ADOLPH KAESBERG:
It is interesting to note that Frederich Adolph Kaesberg and his brother,
Matthias, married two sisters: Maria Barbara and Katharina Pauline Dinges.
Their father was John Dinges and their mother was Katherina, nee Arnold.
Both had been natives of Germany. Katharina was born November 11, 1833 and came to Dutch Hill, located near New Athens, Ill. in 1843. John Dinges had a brother named William. After John died Katharina married a man named Schaub but divorced him and later married George Wirth who was born in New Athens on November 9, 1826. He died on July 10, 1885. Katharina died July
11, 1897. George and Katharina had 3 sons: Franz (Frank) born June 14, 1863,
married Elisabeth, nee Wachsmuth and died July 6, 1906. Elisabeth was born
July 4, 1869 and married a Mr. Stein and had 2 children: Emma born December 17, 1887, married a Mr. Haubrich and George Henry Stein born November 17, 1890. Frank and Elisabeth Wirth had 3 children: Anna Adelia (Adele) born April
5, 1896, married Charles Threnn and died on June 8, 1967. Charles died on June 8, 1945. They had 1 daughter Dorothy, married Elmer Schmidt, Lenzburg,
Illinois. Frank & Elisabeth's 2nd child was Aetna Margaretha born on February 11, 1899, married Louis Nagel, New Athens, Illinois. The last child was:
Edwin William, born May 6, 1902 and died December 12, 1926 as a soldier at Camp Louis Washington.
2. The 2nd son of George & Katharina Wirth was George, born on Dutch Hill, July 25, 1867, married Louisa Metzler on September 28, 1890 and died July 13, 1953. He was quite active in civic and business affairs in New Athens. He was President of the New Athens Auto Stove Works. Louisa was born in Freeburg, Il. on October 3, 1867 and died July 6, 1964. They had the following 3 children:
1. George Philip born December 1, 1891, married to Ada Hessick who died in December 1972. One son: George H.
2. Wilhelomine Augusta (Minnie) born April 3, 1895, married Edward Schmelzel
3. Edgar Otto born June 8, 1905, died May 1977.
3. The third son of George and Katharina was Herman, born September 25, 1870 in Lenzburg Township, married Theresa Junck on April 15, 1895. She was born September 21, 1877 and died April 26, 1901. Herman then married Mary
Maurer on May 19, 1902. She had a son Joseph by a previous marriage. Herman died March 14, 1941. He had been a superintendent of the Illinois Power Co. He had 2 sons: Walter Herman born February 12, 1897 and Joseph
(Red) born in 1901, married Margerite Honer in 1935 and died January 8, 1940.

the name was changed to KaesbergMatthias (Matthew) Kasberg (Kaesberg) was married to Lena Dinges in St Paul's Church, New Athens by Rev. Ferd Fleischer. Matthew farmed 3 1/2 miles south of New Athens. This was property he inherited from his father, Wilhelm
Kaesberg. It was in a will filed April 14, 1887 by Wilhelm that Matthias, his heirs and assigns would receive the 140 acres of land. He also requested that
Matthias give Frederick Adolph Kaesberg $1000. to be paid by $500. in one yr. and $500. to be paid 2 years after Wilhelm died. He also left 3 of his grand-
children $1000. to be paid in the same kind of payments. The three were:
Louise, Catherine Pauline and William Frederich Waeltz, this money to be
divided among the three in equal parts. All the rest of his estate would be left to Matthew who would keep him during the rest of his life and give him a decent
burial. After Matthew quit farming he conducted the Union Hall Saloon in New Athens, Illinois but later returned to the farm approximately in 1912 until his death in 1919. His son, Herman was killed in a mine accident on May 8, 1918
and a grandson, William, lost his life in an accidental fall on the farm. It was
said that Matthew died from a broken heart but church records said he died from diabetes. He was buried in New Athens. In May 1901 everyone in the family
except Matthew Kaesberg came down with typhoid maleria and were taken to
St. Elizabeth's hospital in Belleville.

Pauline and Adolph Sylvester Schonder were married twice. They were married in St. Peter's Cathedral of Belleville on November 24, 1909 and the next day were married at the parsonage at St Paul's Evangelical Church of Belleville.
"Pop" was baptised at St Peter's Cathedral. He enlisted as a baker in the US Navy he served on the following ships: Topeka; Atlanta; ad Dubuque. He was discharged at Portsmouth, New Hampshire on December 18, 1906. After being discharged he returned to the molding trade. Both he and Pauline loved to play pinnochle and rummy.

Uncle and Nephew meet sudden deaths. Herman Kaesberg, a coal miner, 36 years old was killed in the Fairbanks mine at Lenzburg this morning under a fall of coal and slate in less than 12 hours after his 2 year old nephew, Wilmer Kaesberg, had died at the Kaesberg home, Dr. Joseph, New Athens, was called to attend the Kaesberg child but death followed within a few minutes after the doctor's arrival. It was caused by acute dilation of the stomach, which resulted in spasm and then death. The obit on Herman Kaesberg stated he was sur-
vived by his wife and children.

From the news clipping of Mildred Becker, nee Bogush's death, it is noted that she died at St. Elisabeth's Hospital, Belleville after being in the hospital for 6
weeks. Walter Bogush, her husband, was a retired feed and seed store operator at the time of her death. The clipping also stated that a sister, Mathilda Bogush had preceded her in death, but I have no record of a Mathilda.

purchased the Belleville Hardware Store. He retired and sold the store and
contents in July 1984. He died on January 21, 1985. He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Fourth Degree Assembly, the BPOE 481, the
Belleville Exchange Club, St. Vincent DePaul Society and Blessed Sacrament
Church. His son, Roy John (Rex) developed polio and was in the hospital from
July 1946 until his death on April 14, 1947. He had been in the St Louis City Hospital.

Adolph John (A.J.) was named in honor of his father and grandfather. He was
baptised at St Peter's Cathedral. In 1940 he left the molding trade and started working for the Fuller Brush Co. and became a manager. He left the company in 1943 and started working at Dressel Betz Tool and Die Co., Belleville. He entered the USNavy on March 3, 1944 and served his boot training in Farrugut, Idaho and then went to the US Naval Training School, Diesel Division, Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa where he graduated July 8, 1944 as a Motor Machinest Mate. He was assigned to LSMR(landing ship medium rocket) the first ship to have carried rockets in WWII. He was discharged on January 16, 1946. He returned to the Fuller Brush Co. as a manager. In 1947 he became a
salesman for the Industrial Roller Co. and then became part owner of the com-
pany, sales and plant manager and vice president. He sold his interest in the
company and retired in 1971 and he and Velma moved to Florida. He loved to play cards and fish. His hobbies were stained glass work, wood carving, and building model ships. He died August 11, 1996. After he died, Velma sold their home in Seminole and moved to a condo in St Petersburg, Florida.

confirmed as a member of the St Paul's Evangelical Church in 1952. He graduated from Belleville Township High School in 1957 where he held membership in the National Honor Society. He graduated in 1961 from Wash-
ington Univ. St Louis, Mo. where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and Tau Pi Epsilon Pi an honorary pre-medical fraternity. He won ribbons in 1957 and 1960 in the 100 yard free style intramural swimming meet and in 1958 for the 88 yard run intramural track meet. In 1961 he received 2 months externship for study at the St Francis Hospital, Honolulu. He received a $600.
Medical research grant. He graduated from Washington University Medical School in June 1965 and interned at Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dallas, Tx.
He was granted a 3 yr fellowship in Opthamology at City Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. He was commissioned a Lt. in the US Navy on December 16, 1965 and served 2 years active duty as a Lt. Commander in San Diego, Ca. He enjoys tennis, swimming, both water and snow skiing, golf and bridge. He and Kathleen were married twice. First on Oct. 27, 1970 and remarried on December 12, 1970 in St Catherine Church, Riverside, Ca. Kathleen is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Sefchick, Riverside, Ca.
