At the Holiday Party held at the Four66 in December, the champs vowed to staunchly protect and defend their hard-won championship.
It was a festive gathering in which the Blue Jays relived the 2000 championship season and
embellished still further their accomplishment.
In other developments during the off-season, the proposal to play winter indoor softball was soundly
rejected after a nasty exchange of emails amongst team members. Are the Blue Jays taking themselves a bit too seriously.
Or is it that they need the practice?
News that co-rookie of the year, Peter Halsey, would be leaving the Blue Jays to play for another team
in Rhode Island was not taken well. A true Blue Jay would commute to games from wherever he lived.
Peter sent out a soppy email thanking the Blue Jays for giving him the happiest summer of his life
by letting him play with them. In late October
Peter had lamely attempted to ingratiate himself with the Blue Jays by throwing a great Halloween costume
party. None of this worked on the callous Blue Jays who responded by refusing to invite Peter to the annual winter meeting.
The Blue Jays were well represented at the 20th Topsfield Fall Foliage Classic Five Mile
Road race. Bill S (Stewie), Chris D, Jim Mc, Chris P(owers), Kevin T, Norm L and alumni Chris P(lunkett) all finished
with their personal best as the rest of the Blue Jays stood on the curb yelling obscenities at the runners when they passed by.
Several Blue Jays wore their old light blue shirts and brought the crowd to its feet when they finally crossed the finish line. Stewie
threw his second annual post-race keg party and foodfest for the dehydrated Blue Jays. It was well
attended by many Topsfield families and the Blue Jays were constantly hounded for autographs by the kids, As usual,
the Blue Jays were gracious and generous with their signings by only charging one dollar.

The 2008 regular season witnessed the Bluejays at their best, going 11-1 with only a last inning defeat to blemish their record
The playoffs could not have been more different. The Bluejays were the No. 1 seed and drew the No. 8 (last) seed, the Red Sox, who had a record of 0-11. These bunch of bums hadn't won a game all year and were soundly beaten twice by the Jays.
The Bluejays suspected that the Red Sox were using illegal players (not immigrants) when they showed up with several (at least 4) players the Blue Jays had not seen in the regular season games. This affected the Bluejays psyche as they would never do this themselves. The mere thought that another team would resort to cheating was distracting to the Bluejays mental approach to this first playoff game.
The Bluejays did not complain, being the sportmen that they are, and having wimpy management that would not stand up for the players. However, the integrity of the league and some teams in the league was questioned by another team beaten in the playoffs. The Bluejays pounced on this as confirmation of their suspicion and , more conveniently, the reason for their defeat.
The Bluejays players quickly recovered their spirits at the post-game, year-end, and Holiday parties (do they ever stop?). The team looked forward to 2009 but the new management said heads would roll and a younger Bluejay team would emerge. Will the continuing conflicts between players and new management carryover to next year? Stay tuned to the melodramatic exploits of your favorite softball team by frequent visits to this website.
