Notes from the February 10, 2006 meeting
The February  meeting was attended by 6 (six) people, 2 (two) of whom attended for the first time.  We were surprised by a visit from a special guest.  Councillor Jane Pitfield, from Don Valley West, attended to hear about the concerns of ODSP / OW recipients. Jane was shown a January 2006 ODSP statement itemizing the basic allowance.  She was surprised to see that a single person received $427 for shelter in a city the size of Toronto.   And each month the balance of $532 was expected to meet ALL other needs.
Discussions:
Service Provider training was discussed when someone played an answering machine tape message, from an ODSP supervisor, that left their one of their benefit own policies in question.  After hearing the tape, Jane was shown the program handbook pertaining to the policy.  At the end of the meeting, Jane promised to forward a letter outlining ODSP recipient issues to the then-Minister of Community and Social Services, Sandra Pupatello, with a copy to the Don Valley West MPP, Kathleen Wynne.  See also this page: election-mayoral-forum from November 10.
