GRAVITY 72

Die’s footsteps softly echoed against the wall of that dark and cold corridor. It felt weird. What had he gotten himself into?

He didn’t know.

Yoshiki looked mad, and he had a reason for it.

Die smiled

He knew what it was, didn’t he? He did know. He knew it would come up, this way.

But not this soon…the morning after

*

The red head opened the door without knocking and entered with no nervousness, or any feeling except confidence and bravery painted on his face. He looked around, and knew he was right.

Die smiled.

There were two people in the room. One of men was sitting down but looked up as he entered the room, and the other much younger looking one was staring out the window until he spotted Die and stood up broadly. There was something…he knew that. The one who sat down got up and stood in front of the desk. The red head stood in the middle of the room, all confident and strong.

"Ohayou, Die-kun. I hope you remember me" the older man took something out from behind his coat and presented his ID to Die. That familiar card, written Kubota boldly, the inspector of Tokyo police crime department underneath. The younger officer nervously walked towards them. But the older one motioned for him to back away. So he did.

Die smiled, a slow yet deep smile and walked towards the desk, turned around and sat on the big chair elegantly, as if he was used to it, as if it was his chair, his desk, his office.

If Yoshiki found out, he would get killed. But Yoshiki was smart wasn’t he? He wouldn’t want to be in here right now. Not now…

"Die-kun…we are here, asking for an explanation" Kubota-san began. The red head leaned back and smiled. The young officer sat on the couch near the window. The inspector leaned forward to Die, "Something happened this morning, around two o’clock"

Die tilted his head to a side

"Ah! Han-kun" he suddenly exclaimed. The young officer jumped up, "Hai, Kubota-san"

"I forgot to lock the door of my car, could you please take a good care of it?" the older man threw the key to him. Han nervously caught it and glanced at Die.

"It’s okay, I’ll do this alone. I’m experienced, if you don’t remember…"

Han blushed, "Gomenasai, I didn’t mean to…I’ll do it!" he bowed and walked out the room rather quickly. The door closed quietly behind the young police.

Kubota turned back to Die

Die smiled

*

"Toshiya, this is really bad!"

Toshiya turned rather shyly and stared at Kaoru, "Nani?" he spoke politely. Kaoru shook his head, "I don’t know what Die is doing right now! And what did Yoshiki tell him just now…did you notice the sudden hold and he just grabbed Die so quickly that…" Kaoru stopped, thinking hard. The younger one stared at him in surprise.

"Kaoru…are you telling me what you have in mind?" he suddenly asked. Kaoru blinked, then turned to him, "I-I guess so…" he joined his eyebrows. Toshiya smiled meaningfully, "You never did that…anymore!"

Kaoru blushed, "Oh…"

"I mean, all those time when you …didn’t trust me…" Toshiya muttered, looking away.

Kaoru forgot didn’t he? All those breaking up thing…he TOTALLY forgot.

Toshiya smiled, "Thanks…I appreciate that though you didn’t do it in purpose" he whispered. Kaoru thought a little, then nodded and turned away, wondering what was happening to them. The bassist bit his lip, then suddenly without hesitation he leaned to a side and kissed Kaoru’s cheek quickly. He could feel how the guitarist jumped at that action.

Toshiya smiled to himself, then without looking at Kaoru, he walked away towards Shinya.

Kaoru blushed

On the couch, Yoshiki was talking to Shinya. The younger one looked all serious and interested. Kyo was grinning madly at the purple head until Toshiya smacked the short blond’s head and threw himself on the couch.

Kaoru was still blushing by the time Shinya started to talk to Toshiya and Yoshiki disappeared into a corner with Kyo.

"What happened?"

"Oh, the 31st street was burnt down. The base which was used to know as the most –dangerous- place in town, as well as the place for the most powerful gang in town…caught fire" Kubota-san spoke, with dignity, and something else. The way he looked at Die, as if Die knew something was going on! But did Die know about that before?

Die joined his eyebrows, "Wow! You mean that place…burnt down?" he gasped, "That’s pretty big area, how could it…" he narrowed his eyes at the detective. The older man did the same to him, "I don’t know…I seriously don’t know"

Die pouted, "Hm…what’s it got to do with me then?" he stopped, "Apart from the fact that that place kept a really bad memory for me, if you remember" he looked up straight into the detective’s eyes sharply. The older man chuckled.

"I do. That’s why I’m here…"

"Oh"

"Hai. You see, Die-kun…" he sat down on the chair, "I think somebody did this whole thing! He burnt down the place…pretty badly I must say"

The red head raised an eyebrow, crossing his legs.

"But why? He has to have motive right?" Kubota-san asked.

Die shrugged, "I suppose…"

"How bout this…some witnesses had been reported…" he stopped, taking a deep breath, "Seeing two men, standing in front o the base house, holding beer bottles, smoking cigarettes…"

Die pouted, "Then you’re assuming they did it?"

Kubota-san nodded

"And the thing that brought me here…not only you have a strong motive, you look somehow exactly like what they had described to me!" Kubota-san smiled. Die smiled back, calmly, charmingly.

"I see"

"Hai. That’s why, Die-kun, I need to know…where were you that time?" his eyes looking at Die, inspecting, looking, studying. The red head leaned back comfortably, placing his hand on his lap and another one on the desk.

"Well, I was at home the whole time…"

"Really?"

"Yeah. The WHOLE time" he stopped, "Ah! But there’s no witness, meaning I have no alibi. Shinya slept the whole night"

"How do you know he slept the whole night?"

Die smiled, "Because I was awake"

Kubota raised an eyebrow, "Oh! And why is that?"

"Let me think…" Die took his own sweet time, "My lover was raped and attacked very badly a week ago, and he has been having nightmares since then. I’m feeling really tired, but I have to stay awake every night, to make sure he is fine…" he smiled and leaned forward, "How bout that?"

The detective narrowed his eyes.

"Good one I suppose…"

"Thank you…"

"Die-kun…do you know…that this incident, actually helps the police department a lot?"

Die jerked his head up, looking all interest, "How come?"

"Of course! They had been a big problem for ALL the police! The base was burnt down, meaning the existence of that gang will probably come to an end!"

Die nodded, "Possibly…"

"Yeah! Especially…Yuzuna"

Die joined his eyebrows

"He’s the leader of the gang, a total trash for society…"

Die pouted, "What happened to him?"

"Paralyzed I think, last stage of burnt, he won’t be able to survive…"

The red head nodded, "Wow…that must be really bad" Kubota-san nodded, and that was when the door was knocked then opened slightly. Die casted his eyes at the direction and saw the young police entering the room. Kubota-san stood up, "Well, then nice talking to you, Die-kun…I hope if you know something about it…you’ll be smart enough to inform us…or me" he ended professionally.

Then he leaned forward, preventing Die to view the younger officer, and took something out from his pocket.

Die narrowed his eyes

The detective placed something on the desk, right in front of the red head

Die casted his eyes down as soon as the older man’s hand was out of the sight

A zippo

"Sayonara…Die-kun"

Die looked up, his eyes shot straight into the detective’s eyes, with fire, and the anger, fury grief mixed in one.

Kubota-san smiled, then turned away walking towards the younger police, "Let’s go Han" the younger one looked shock, then he looked at Die nervously, "Nani? Demo…the zippo…" he whispered. The older one raised a hand up, "It’s not his…"

Han blinked in surprise, "OH…okay. Let’s go then…" by the time he finished the sentence, the other man had walked out the room. Then the door was closed softly, and Die was still sitting down on the big chair, staring at the thing in front of his eyes.

The zippo

The red head looked like as if he was freeze on his seat, not moving at all!

Die jerked his head up, finally.

He smiled

"Hm…helping eh?" he whispered huskily and took the zippo up. He eyed it for a while before placing it back on the table. Then he heard soft knock, and Die parted his lips as he saw who it was entering the room.

"Die, who are those people?" Shinya looked towards the door, "I never seen them before…" the red head paced towards the younger man and shrugged, "Just some men, doing business…but it’s nothing. They are just weird"

"Business?" Shinya looked up as Die hugged his waist.

"Yeah, they want me to do some ad"

"Eh? You reject? Why?" Shinya gasped loudly before casting his eyes around the room. The cupboard, the window, the chair. The desk…it was Yoshiki-san’s office ne? Everything belonged to him were precious. Then his eyes caught something

"Eh? What’s your lighter doing in Yoshiki-san’s office?" Shinya pouted, pointing at the zippo on the desk. The red head laughed, "It likes it there…"

Shinya narrowed his eyes, "Don’t tell me Yoshiki-san …but it will never happen! Don’t smoke too much! Quit it! Oh, so why did you reject the offer?"

Die smiled lovingly, "Because I’m going for holiday with my precious little one…" he touched Shinya's forehead with his. The drummer gasped, "OH, Die, I can’t believe you did that for me!" he wrapped his arms around Die’s neck, "You don’t have to…"

Die laughed, "But I want to!" he kissed Shinya’s forehead, "I want to please you…"

Shinya sighed, "This is weird. You make me feel as if I’m floating in the air! So I think I’m pleased!" he laughed. Die laughed too. Then he cupped the young man’s cheeks.

"Shinya, you make me realize how the real world is like" Die whispered, "You teach me about life, about ugliness and happiness"

Shinya pouted

"I’m serious…Shin-chan"

Shinya smiled

"You show me the reality…keeping my feet on the ground, tied down by the gravity of earth"

Shinya bit his lip

"I think I’m a better man already!"

Shinya laughed

"I love you Shin-chan"

Shinya blinked, staring into Die’s eyes.

"I love you Die…"

Die blinked, looking surprise.

Those were the words right?

The most beautiful thing he wanted to hear…the most beautiful thing he had ever heard.

But then he covered it pretty well and hugged Shinya gently. No words to say, nothing to tell. Silence filled the air Both men hugged each other, in the middle of the room. Cold replaced by warmth, pain replaced by love.

No, not replaced …covered.

It was still there, but slowly…it would disappear…

Die

Shinya
