Part I

"Kaoru, we’re going to the pub down the road! Wanna come?" Die asked the guitarist cheerfully.

"What are you guys celebrating?" Kaoru said, trying to remember everyone’s birthday. He gave up straight away, due to his short memory. He took his coat, then turned to Die, "I give up! I’ll just come along"

"It’s Shinya’s birthday. Don’t you know?…He’s turning 21!"Die looked at him with an eyebrow raised.

"You seriously can’t remember?! God Kaoru, what have you been doing?!" Toshiya gave him a wicked smile, and then he bit his lower lip teasingly.

Kyo and Die rolled their eyes. Kaoru had been the bassist’s object of desire since ages ago. Kaoru himself didn’t seem to know that, as usual. What did he know anyway? His ignorance of his own appearance had been the greatest attraction he ever had. Sometimes he was serious; sometimes he created a distance. Other times he was just a person who got along with everyone. Toshiya loved the way Kaoru acted, and how cute he looked when he was teased.

"Me? Nothing! Go and get yourself a girl, Toshiya. You’re just too horny these days" He glanced Toshiya for a while, then focused on the birthday person. Toshiya turned away frowning.

"Seriously, Shinya. Is today really your birthday?" Kaoru asked him with a huge guilt on his back.

"No. It’s tomorrow" Shinya answered quietly. Then he glared at Die "-He- wants me to have it today! Right now!" He said as he brushed his short hair with his fingers. Then Shinya started,

"Listen guys! I’m turning 21 tomorrow and I’m not planning to trash myself in some cheap smokey bar! So whatever you guys plan for me, just forget it! I’m going to treat you guys in some restaurant but –not- bars or pubs or….mphhhh!"

Die suddenly grabbed Shinya’s face, covering his lips with his big palm.

"You talked too much, Shin-chan. Let’s go" he said as he carried Shinya in his arms. Shinya’s heartbeat fastened, he blushed, feeling surprised at the way his body fitted on Die’s arm. He never realised Die’s strong arms. When he looked up, he saw Die’s eyes staring at him. Looking deep into his own eyes in a strange way.

Kaoru walked after them slowly, he was glad that Shinya’s birthday was not today so he could still buy a present for him….but what? what can I buy for Shinya?

The bar was full, there were many people drinking, dancing, chatting, even shouting. In one of the corner, Shinya was lying on the couch alone. His eyes were half closed. Slightly, he could see some couple making out in the other corner across the pub; on the dance floor he could see people groping each other. Then he stared at his drinks, the only drink he had was a single Black Russian, which was on the table, and it was not even finished. He exhaled and could smell alcohol under his breath.

The drink was not too strong for him but he already felt as if he was going to collapse. Must be Die! Baka~ He tried to sit up properly on the couch instead of lying on it. However, he suddenly had the urge to throw up as he got up. His head spinned and his stomach ached. Shinya tried to stand up by himself but he couldn’t. Instead, he fell on the carpet, holding his mouth tightly. He stayed there for few seconds trying not to spill his vomit out until,

"Shin-chan needs to puke ne?"

Suddenly strong arms pulled Shinya up, carrying him to the bathroom. When Shinya looked up, he saw

Die looking at him. He wanted to say something but he couldn’t. As soon as they reached the bathroom, Shinya sat on the ground facing one of the toilet bowls and spilled everything out. He didn’t know Die was standing behind him, watching what he was doing.

After he was finished, Shinya flushed the toilet. He leaned on the wall still sitting on the floor. He could smell alcohol in the air, mix with the slight unpleasant smell of vomit. He closed his eyes and breath properly. Suddenly, as he took a deep breath the unpleasant smell was replaced with a scent of masculinity. Confused, Shinya opened his eyes and saw Die kneeling down on the floor right in front of him. Die’s eyes were sharp, looking deep into his. His hair was long with red streaks falling covering his face. He looked so scary that Shinya closed his eyes again, unable to say a word. Then he felt something cold touching rubbing his lips, followed by cold hands grabbing his face. By the time he realised Die’s tongue roughly roaming in his mouth, it was already too late.

Kaoru came back from the bar, smoking a cigarette. He was holding his drink, his eyes a bit blurry. Man I’m already high…He could hear Kyo screaming from the fuzz ball session. That brat must’ve won some bet! Kaoru kept walking towards their table, he wanted to see if Shinya was ok being left alone in the corner. Plus, this should be Shinya’s ‘birthday party’. Then he heard people yelling from the dance floor. As he turned, he could see Toshiya surrounded by the crowd. Why am I not surprised?! Kaoru wondered. Kaoru walked quickly towards the table but he could see no one when he reached there. He saw Shinya’s drinks was on the table, unfinished. He looked around but there was no sign of the drummer. Uh-oh. Suddenly somebody pulled his arm. He turned around to see Toshiya sobbing.

"Toshiya? What’s wrong?" he asked.

"That man tried to kiss me…" Toshiya said innocently as he pointed at a man who was held by two bouncers. Faintly through the loud music Kaoru could hear him yelling but he didn’t know what it was. Then he disappeared with the two bouncers to the back door.

Kaoru looked at Toshiya who was still sobbing. He smiled as he pulled the bassist closer to him; his arms around the slim waist Kaoru hugged Toshiya tightly.

"It’s ok! Look, he’s kicked out of here!"

Toshiya rested his head on Kaoru’s shoulder. It was so strange for him to find peace in Kaoru’s arms that he smiled. Kaoru patted Toshiya’s head gently and pulled him down the couch, waiting for Toshiya to sleep in his arms. Toshiya’s hug loosened a little as he fell asleep on the couch.

Kaoru stared at the bassist closely, observing his closed eyes, his nose and his slight parted lips. Toshiya looked so beautiful under the blue light. His hands still held Kaoru’s tightly. Kaoru kissed them gently, thinking you don’t have to flirt Toshiya…but I really want you to learn that love does exist! Kaoru touched Toshiya’s fringe gently, he smiled feeling love grew even more in his heart. He stayed there for a while, watching Toshiya sleeping. But he realized he had something else to do.

After making sure that Toshiya would be alright being left alone in the corner, he got up to look for Shinya. Shinya must be really drunk by now! I knew that they make the drink stronger than usual!

At first he looked around carefully, but his eyes were a bit blurred by alcohol. Then he decided to look for Shinya in the bathroom.

Kaoru walked towards the bathroom, his hand reached for the handle but suddenly the door was opened from the inside. Die walked out of the bathroom, touching his own lips Die looked high. Kaoru touched his arm "hey Die, did you see Shinya in there?". Kaoru smiled, realising that he didn’t have to go into the bathroom. However, Die just ignored him. He pouted, trying to free his arm from Kaoru’s hand. He stared at Kaoru for a moment. Kaoru could see Die’s eyes were filled with strangeness Kaoru had never seen. Kaoru was so confused that he joined his eyebrows. As he tried to ask Die what happened the bigger guy had gone as if he was sucked into the crowd.

Kaoru walked into the toilet but he couldn’t find anyone. It was dark as well. Suddenly he heard a moan. Somebody was in one of the cubicle, exhaling. Kaoru rushed to open the door only to find Shinya sitting on the floor. His eyes were closed, his lips parted. Kaoru could see Shinya’s clothes rumpled and his pants’ button was undone. He tried not to think about the worst possibility but couldn’t help thinking that something had happened to Shinya as he stepped on the sticky floor near the drummer. Kaoru bent down, he held Shinya’s face up so he could see him properly.

"Shinya!" he patted Shinya’s cheeks trying to wake him up.

"…" no reply

"Shinya! It’s me, Kaoru! Wake up!" Kaoru shook Shinya’s shoulders. Shinya opened his eyes, Kaoru shook him even harder. "Shinya! What happened?!" he asked in a worried tone.

Shinya looked up to Kaoru, still sitting on the floor. He pouted and joined his eyebrows, then he said,

"What happened?" echoing Kaoru’s question.

Kaoru realised there was no way to find out what was going on from Shinya. He pulled Shinya into his arms, then led him out of the toilet. "We’re going back" he yelled to Shinya as they reached outside the bathroom. Shinya’s eyes were still closed, he restlessly placed his head on Kaoru’s shoulder.

"Kaoru! Wa…what happen to Shinya?" Kyo yelled followed by a wicked smile on his face as he saw Kaoru walking towards their table with Shinya leaning on him. Shinya’s eyes were closed. Kaoru looked around but he couldn’t find Die. "Kyo, where is Die?!" he yelled, scared that Kyo wouldn’t be able to hear his voice through the loud music.

"Went somewhere for a smoke. He could’ve smoked here you know, baka~ Die!" Kyo yelled back, sticking his tongue out. "But Toshiya is sleeping! Look!" he pointed at Toshiya who was sleeping on the couch as he continued. "This is so boring man!" Kyo slumped on the couch hard, causing Toshiya to wake up.

"Aaa…wanna sleep! Kyo baka~!" Toshiya pouted cutely then he kicked Kyo. Toshiya looked up, blinking his eyes. Then he saw Kaoru standing near him. But his smile quickly faded as he saw Shinya leaning on the guitarist’s shoulder. Toshiya’s eyes narrowed, filled with anger and jealousy. What is he doing with –my- Kaoru? Toshiya got up quickly, pulling Kaoru’s other arm. Kaoru screamed, scared to make the half-conscious Shinya fall on the ground.

"Toshiya! What the heck…?!" Kaoru looked at him in confusion.

"Kaoru, stay with me! I’m so scared!" Toshiya’s eyes filled with tears, his hands pulling Kaoru’s arm, asking him to sit beside him. Kaoru felt himself weakened, he wanted to stay for Toshiya. He wanted to sit beside Toshiya, holding him in his arms and calmed him down. However as soon as he thought of this, Shinya suddenly puked on the floor, right beside Kaoru.

"Wa…! Shinya man! You can get pretty disgusting sometimes ne?!" Kyo yelled in disgust, pinching his nose. Then he ran away quickly towards the bar. Kaoru gasped, he speechlessly looked down to his shoes "…Shin…ya….!" He said looking at them, half-covered by vomit. Shinya bent down, looking really sick. After a moment, Kaoru looked down lower to see Shinya’s face. That was when he realised that the drummer seemed half-dead.

"Shinya?" Kaoru started to get really worried. Then he held Shinya by his arms, turning to Toshiya, he said "Toshiya…I’m sorry! I’ll see you tomorrow ne? Shinya is really sick now!" Kaoru led Shinya walking towards the exit. He bit his lower lip hard thinking of Toshiya. I’m sorry…but you’ll be fine. I know you will, Toshiya.

Toshiya bit his lip too; he looked really hurt. Kyo came back, getting few bottles of beer. "oh! They’re gone?" Kyo pouted looking at Toshiya who was sobbing quietly. He offered the bassist one of the bottles, "drink ne? you need it! Argh! There you are Die!" Kyo yelled, smiling at Die who was suddenly beside him. "I didn’t see you man! Kaoru looked for you, have a drink!" Kyo offered Die a bottle of beer.

Suddenly Toshiya yelled, "Yes! Have a drink! Screw them! Let’s have a wild night!" His eyes were still filled with tears. He took the bottle and drank it quickly after rubbing his eyes. Then he leaned to Die, "Come on Die! This is –your- idea! Nevermind the birthday baby! Let’s have fun!" See Kaoru, we’ll have fun!

Kyo took Shinya’s drink from the table. He took a sip "Eurgh! This is gross man! So bitter!" Toshiya grabbed the glass and drank it. Fuck Shinya! I don’t care! Die looked at Toshiya, surprised.

"Toshiya…that’s really strong!"

"I wanna get really drunk tonight" Toshiya said quietly.

"Yeah! Let’s all get drunk! Come on Die! I challenge you to drink this!" Kyo took the drink from Toshiya’s hand and handed it to Die. Toshiya laughed, giving Die the I-don’t-think-you-dare-look. Insulted, Die finished Shinya’s drink quickly.

We will have fun, Kaoru! –I- can have fun even without you!
