Terry Knight and the Pack were the typical garage band who achieved local fame, and even flirted with national fame. They had a lot of Mid-West radio air play, and even had song that made the national top 100. And they got to open for some major touring bands (the Rolling Stones) as they passed through the Cleveland - Detroit area. But real lasting national fame was not to be.  Terry left the The Pack after their 2nd album (~67) and pursed his 'solo' career. (Those other guys are holding me back!).

The Pack continued on but nothing really happened. Sometime in '68,  fate entered the scene - the wives of the married members (Curt and Bobby) put their foot down and demanded that Curt and Bobby leave the group. Mark and Don decided to continue but this time as a power trio - the rise of Cream, Hendrix and others led them to the conclusion that 'now' was the right time to form their own power trio. Recruiting Mel Schacher (from ? and The Mysterians), the new band was formed and named - Grand Funk Railroad - as a play on words from the Grand Trunk Western Railroad train line which traveled through Flint Michigan - home of these boys.  And in one of life's interesting twists - they chose Terry Knight to be their Manager and Producer, mostly because Terry had begun producing records (after his solo career fizzled). No doubt, this is a decision that Mark, Don and Mel regretted. (In the mid 70's, Terry was fired as manager. He sued for breach of contract and won.)

Anyway, this bootleg, Psychedelic Knights, appears to the now out of print 1972 ABKCO Records release of the 2 LP set Mark, Don and Terry 1965-67. All of the Terry Knight And The Pack material went out of print in 1973.
