The cast of The Tribe is full of experienced entertainers - actors & actresses, singers & dancers.  Here you can find out about them all & a little bit about their characters
Alice (Vanessa Stacey)
Alice - "A name of Celtic/Teutonic origin, meaning Sweet; noble"
Alice is the older sister of Ellie, & is very protective of her & of her friends in general.  She believes in the power of justice, & other who dont uphold it feel her wrath


Vanessa Stacey
- Vanessa has a wide range of experience in a variety of media.

She has been in several films (The Frighteners, Heavenly Creatures, and Willow). In the theatre, she has been in Charlotte`s Web, Baby with the bathwater, Work in Progress, and the Knitwits. Vanessa featured in the role of Alice in the first series of the Tribe.
Vanessa has a Diploma in Directing Performance Art and enjoys singing, with a Certificate in Jazz Theory and Performance.
Vanessa`s hobbies include theatre, music, singing, writing and directing theatre.
Amber (Beth Allen)
Andy (James Ordish)
Amber - "A name of Arabic origin, meaning Amber; immortal; jewel - Amber is a precious gem-stone" 
Amber is the mother figure within The Mallrats, witha strong view on Justice,a dream of the future, a level head & stable temper.  She has finnaly got back with Bray & her child will be born soon (but will it survive?)

Beth Allen

Beth was 14 years old in Series I - she is now 17 and has been acting since 1993. She was a member of the PAS Children`s Theatre and appeared in Pinnochio and Hairy Maclary at Auckland`s Aotea Centre.

She has been in several television commercials, had a guest role as Eva in the television drama Riding High and played Young Julie in the feature film The Ugly.
Andy - "A name of Greek origin, meaning Manly"
Andy is the twin brither of Tally, & the little brother of Ned.  He looks up to KC & has the same 'Del-Boy' streak in his character (If your not from the UK you might not understand that bit about 'Del-Boy')

James Ordish
James is 12 years old. He has had drama lessons since the age of 5. James has had roles in theatre, television commercials, television drama and film. James had a lead role in 1997 in a film called Murder House - coincidentally Amelia Reynolds also starred in the same film.
In his spare time James likes tap dancing, drama, singing, guitar, and soccer.
Bray (Dwayne Cameron)
Bray - "A name of English/Teutonic origin, meaning Bravery, Strength"
Bray is the eco-warrior of The Mallrats.  Handsome (according to the girls), charming, sensitive, & both mentally & physically strong. He lost his younger brother, Martin (Zoot) in series one.  He & Amber are expecting a child very soon

Dwayne Cameron
Dwayne was 17 years old in Series I - he is now 19/20 and has trained at O`Grady`s Drama Academy.

His experience in television drama includes roles in Amazon High and One of Them.

He has also appeared in several television commercials. Dwayne played the part of Chris in Jessica`s Diary , a screenplay in the Cloud 9 series William Shatner`s A Twist in the Tail.
Cloe (Jaimee Kaire-Gataulu)
Cloe - "A name of Greek origin, meaning Blooming"
Cloe is one of the 'little' girls of the Mallrats.  She has always been looked out for by all of the tribe, because of her loveable nature & cheeky character.  Now, in series 4, she has grown a lot since the Chosen took her away from our screens in the beginnings of series 3

Jaimee Kaire-Gataulu

Jaimee was 11 years old in Series I - she is now about 14. She has a variety of experience in film, radio and television. She has had roles in the short films Clown Story (1996) and The Birthday (1994) and she played the lead in the short film The Kiwi and the Water Melon (1993).

Her television work includes roles in The Visitation and Xena. Most recently, Jaimee has worked as a reporter on What Now for KVNZ.

She has recorded several radio commercials and has a weekly radio spot with Wellington radio station, the Breeze.
Dal (Ashwath Sundarasen)
Dal - Dal is the medic, farmer & dreamer of the Mallrats.  An old friend of Amber, he was killed by the Chosen in series 3.  He got on well with most country-tribes, especially the Gulls

Ashwath Sundarasen

Ashwath was 12 years old in Series I. He has participated in drama at school, has learned Bharat Natyam (an Indian classical dance) for four years and has also learned Indian classical music.

Ashwath has recently been a member of the children`s chorus in a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat that toured New Zealand.
Danni (Ella Wilks)
Danni - "Taken from the name Danielle, a name of Hebrew origin, meaning 'My judge is the Lord' "
Danni is passionate about her beliefs, especially her beloved 'Bill of Rights'.  She is very stubborn & strong willed, & she has a high opinion of herself.

Ella Wilks


Ella was 14 years old in Series II. She has been in several plays including lead roles in Romeo and Julliet, and Squabble.
Ella has four years of acting at the Performing Arts Centre and three years of dance. She has also been in videos and documentaries.
Ella enjoys travelling, acting, singing, dancing, swimming, and art and drawing.
Ebony (Meryl Cassie)
Ebony - "A name of Latin origin, meaning Dark black wood"
Former leader of the powerful Locos, the 'woman of Zoot', she has never lost her lust for power, or her feelings for Zoots brother, Bray. She could be classed as the female equivalent of Lex

Meryl Cassie


Meryl was 14 years old in Series I - she is now 16/17. She has trained in drama at the Young People`s Theatre and Nathan Homestead.
Her experience in front of the camera includes numerous photographic shoots as well as extra work on Hercules and Shortland Street.
Meryl loves to sing and does just that at every chance she gets.  She has formed a signing group with her 2 older sisters, Monique & Megan
Ellie (Jennyfer Jewell)
Ellie - "A name of Greek origin, meaning Light"
Ellie has the journalistic genes pumping through her veins, but her noseyness can get here in trouble.  She a first was with Jack, then with Luke, then with Jack . . . . .Oh you get the picture

Jennyfer Jewell

Jennyfer was 15 years old in Series I of the Tribe and has a lot of experience in television. Her previous roles include the Enid Blyton Secret Series and The Enid Blyton Adventure Series (also made by Cloud 9) as well as Mirror Mirror and The Storytellers.
She has also been in theatre in The Thingamajigs and the Buzz O`Bumble Show, as well as roles in short films and commercials.
Jennyfer attended the Film Acting Workshop and performed Ballet for four years.
Jennyfer enjoys bicycling, dance, horse riding, music, running, singing, skiing and swimming.
Jack (Michael Wesley-Smith)
Jack - "A name of Hebrew/Anglo-Saxon origin, meaning Gods gracious gift"
Jack is the inventor of The Mallrats, creating many new things to help improve the lives of his friends, such as power souces, security alarms, & water purifiers.

Michael Wesley-Smith
Michael was 15 years old in Series I - he is now 17/18. He has studied drama for four years at school and has taken several drama courses.

Michael has had roles in a number of radio plays for Radio New Zealand such as Yellow Bride and The Baby Farmer.

Michael was a member of the guest cast in the Cloud 9 production of The Legend of William Tell.
KC (Ari Boyland)
KC - KC is the young entrepreneur of The Mallrats - always ready to make a deal, dodgy or not. Beneath his salesman exterior, he acts wiht the best interests of his tribe at heart, & will do anything he can for them

Ari Boyland

Ari was 12 years old in Series I. He has been in many theatrical and musical productions including the musical Oliver and the New Zealand Children`s Academy.

Ari enjoys sports including soccer, basketball, flipperball, and rollerblading.
Lex (Caleb Ross)
Lex - "A name of greek origin.  A shortened form of Alexander, meaing Helper; loyal"
Lex is the good/bad character within the Mallrats.  He isnt afraid to use his physical strength to get what he wants.  In his best friend Ryan there is a very strong bond that shines through in times of each others need.  He relies on his instincts & these serve him well.  He is probably one, if not the best, survivor in the Mallrats, able to turn something bad to his own gains

Caleb Ross


Caleb was 17 years old in Series I - he is now 19/20. As a member of the Whangeri Amateur Opera and Dramatics Society he has had a variety of stage experiences including roles in Evita, Godspell and Peter Pan.

In 1994 Caleb played the part of Brett in the New Zealand feature film Avondale Dogs.

His recent television work includes playing Temecula in Xena and Logan Patterson in Shortland Street. Caleb has also had roles in Hercules and Plainclothes
Luke (Jacob Tomuri)
Luke - "A name of Latin origin, meaning Bringer of light"
Luke is a man torn - torn between what his beliefs tell him, & what his heart & mind tell him..  His beliefs lie strongly in Power & Chaos, but his heart & mind tell him that The Guardian has corrupted the memory of Zoot, & he is drawn to Ellie,  but they stand to different sides of the fence, with no way over or round it

Jacob Tomuri

Jacob is 21 years old. He has had roles in various productions. In 2000 he was a stunt performer for Peter Jackson in The Lord of The Rings.

He has had roles in film, television commercials and television drama. In 2000 as well as being a stunt performer and being Lieutenant Luke in The Tribe Series III he had a guest role in a film called Snakeskin.

Jacobs hobbies include martial arts, dance parties, painting, photography, theatre and anything relating to the arts.
