Samurai were the warrior class of fuedal Japan which existed from the 12th to the 16th century AD. Samurai, also known as Bushi, followed Bushido; Bushido is a philosophy familiar to all Samurai of the Japanese Shogunate. Principles of honor, self-sacrifice, service, and duty are instilled within the unwritten code of these Japanese warriors. The Bushido places emphasis on the concepts of Justice, Courage, Benevolence, Politeness, Truthfulness, Honor, Loyalty, and self-control.
