Archived Trillian News:

~ 2/16/02 (12:00AM-EST) - I've been around reading the Trillian forums, and awaiting word. If you're reading this, I know you're part of our community. We need your help. While the developers are hard at work day after day, we need to take the publicity of this situation into our own hands. This is OUR program. Please help by following this link to the Trillian Forum thread about how to help.

- While Cerulean developers continue to work on this problem, the Trillian community has begun to come together in sending letters to the US Department of Justice Antitrust Division. The number of calls, letters, and e-mails really make a difference, allows our voice to be heard, causes more publicity, and gets the rest of the online community involved. Click here to file a report. You can also visit the Federal Trade Commission here. Note: Please make your letters formal and intelligent, refraining from any AOL bashing (i.e. AOL "SuCKS!!").

- AOL seems to be blocking all non-AOL distributed AIM clients! The developers are well aware of this, and have alredy begun to address the problem. Make sure to watch for updates here, and the Official Trillian Website. The majority of Trillian users connecting to AIM now are receiving the following error (taken from the Trillian Forum):

"AOL Instant Messenger: You have been disconnected from the AOL Instant Message Service (SM) for accessing the AOL network using unauthorized software. You can download a FREE, fully featured, and authorized client, here http://www.aol.com/aim/download2.html."

- We've been running pretty smooth lately! No news is good news sometimes :) However, some people have begun to report connection problems with the current Trillian version, 0.724, with the latest AIM patch, "Patch C." The developers are working on finding out what it is is singling out these users, and working on a solution.

~ 2/7/02 (8:00PM-EST)
- Cerulean Studios has released a quick AIM patch FOR Trillian v0.724! This is the 3rd version of the patch, known as "Patch C." If you downloaded an earlier version today, Patch A or B, and are having problems, this patch should work for you. Note: Patch C also contains Patches A & B. Cerulean Studios has been working non-stop to provide us with constant multiple solutions to the AIM filters. All this work has been put in against a company as big as AOL; and Trillian still remains Freeware with no ads. If you haven't donated yet, I urge you to toss a couple dollars their way. They've earned it. See you on AIM!

~ 2/7/02 (10:00PM-EST)
- Oops! Minor error in the v0.723 update made need for version 0.724! You can get it HERE! It's good to see releases are being distributed as a long term solution falls into place. Cerulean Studios released the following info:

- Trillian 0.724 released -

* AIM: Fixed AIM connection issues.
* AIM: Supports server-side buddies.
* Many bug fixes and feature requests implemented.

- New version of Trillian (v0.723 released.)

~ 2/7/02 (6:00AM-EST)
- Community troubleshooter Chaos Monk has found a temporary workaround to keep connection to the AIM servers! Here are links for both the graphical view (GIF/18.9K), and the text view. Directions and text view submitted by Aberrant; GIF view submitted by TheRaven.

* Note *  To people having problems with this method: This fix Does work. The timing to do this is very important, and if you have a faster connection, you may actually connect before 3 seconds passes on the clock. The trick to making this work is trial and error. Try connecting immediately (auto-reconnect to chat), .5 seconds, 1 second, 1.5 seconds, etc.. Depending on the speed of your connection, it just takes different timing. I even got mine to work! :) Enjoy!

~ 2/7/02 (3:00AM-EST)
- The current version of Trillian (v. 0.722) has been blocked by AOL. More people have joined in finding the solution.

~ 2/6/02 (2:00PM-EST)
- Apparently, the people at AOL have been busy little beavers today! More users are becoming affected by new changes AOL has made to their AIM servers. Cerulean Studios and community troubleshooters are both already on top of the problem. Stay tuned for updates!

~ 2/6/02 (5:30AM-EST)
- AOL seems to be making some server changes. It's still unknown to us exactly what is going on, but random accounts just seem to not be able to connect through Trillian. No connection has been made between the blocked accounts yet. This seems to not only affect AIM screen names, but AOL accounts as well (including mine.) @Triadian notes that the majority of users overcoming this problem are using their WinAIM client to: 1) Change your password [can be to the same password] and reconnecting , 2) Save your privacy settings, 3) Adding or removing a buddy, or 4) Disabling SecureIM. In the meantime, troubleshooters and Cerulean Studios' Trillian coders continue find the hidden link.

~ 2/5/02 (6:00AM-EST)
- Yahoo! still seems to be having problems with their servers. If you cannot connect to Yahoo! via Trillian, verify the Yahoo! server you are connecting to is "cs.yahoo.com". Users connecting to "scs.yahoo.com" may encounter a much higher rate of connectivity problems. (Comment given by @Triadian on EFNet's #trillian)

~ 2/4/02 (9:00PM-EST)
- Trillian hits 300,000 downloads in ONE WEEK...from the CNET server ALONE! It seems all this publicity has sent hundreds of thousands of internet users into a mad downloading frenzy; wanting to get a glimpse of what Trillian has to offer.

2/1/02 (Early Morning) - Cerulean Studios' (Trillian) coders quickly update the Trillian-v0.721 client to Trillian-v0.722, fixing the most recent changes to AOL's AIM servers. This release also includes an auto-update feature to keep you up-to-date with the latest Trillian versions! (Rendering this page virtually useless! ...wait...is this a good thing? :)
