Anna K. Kleven
Mrs. Anna K. Kleven, mother of Rev. A.N. Kleven,
of this city, died at the home of her son last Friday morning at 7 o’clock. She had been in poor health for many years and was
confined to her bed a large share of the time. She, however, was well enough to
attend church a week before her death, being one of the communicants who
partook of the Lord’s Supper at a celebration of that Sacrament in the Norwegian Lutheran Church on Good Friday, just a week before her demise. She
was 84 years of age.
The deceased was born at Ness
Telemarken, Norway in September 1825 and was married to Nils Anderson Kleven in 1847. In
1855 her husband died. In the year 1881 she came to America and since that time has lived with her children at
various places in Minnesota. She was the mother of four children: Rev. A.N. Kleven, of this city. K.N. Kleven
of Porter, Mrs. Dorthea Nilson
of Hoffman, Minn. And Mrs. Anna Christianson, deceased. Many grand
children and great grandchildren survive her.
The deceased was a good,
Christian woman of the sturdy Scandinavian type. She performed her duties of
wife and mother in a manner which greatly endeared her to her household and to
the last her children remained fondly attached to her and did all that was in
their power to make the declining years of her life pleasant. Lately she has
been spending most of her time with the Klevens in
this city and Mr. and Mrs. Kleven and their children
have taken special pains to make “grandma” comfortable. The whole family united
in this and the consequence was that the aged grand parent passed at this home
as pleasant and enjoyable days as could be expected of one of her age and
condition of health.
The deceased enjoyed the
highest esteem of all those with whom she was associated and her true womanly
qualities and Christian virtues served to endear her to all and will long keep
fresh her memory among her many friends and relatives.
The funeral was held from the
Norwegian Lutheran Church Tuesday afternoon and was attended by about five
hundred people. The service was conducted by Rev. Hinderly
of Canby, assisted by Rev. Henry Noss of Sioux Rapids,
Iowa. The pall bearers were: K.E. Kjornes,
O. Orsen, Pau. Gunderson, Jen R. Johnson, Knute Thompson, and Lars Anderson.

attending the funeral were: Rev. Nils Kleven and Miss Dorthea Kleven of Albert Lea, Miss Agnes Kleven, Northfield, and Rev. and
Mrs. Henry Noss of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Carl Christianson and his three
