What would you say if your fiance calmly announced that they would not wear a suit to your wedding? Well, in the case of myself... I did what always came natural to me: I spoke first and thought later. Kirk being a comicbook artist, has always had a huge admiration for costumes, especially the Superheroes. The first time I ever visited his apartment in Las Vegas, I was given a grand tour complete with the viewing of Kirk's many self photos of being dressed in full "Batman" armor. Kirk had huge collections of comic book artifacts and "Batman" moviebilia. Subsequently, the first remarks to his best friend for the main reason he knew I was the perfect girl for him was because the first time I ever visited I had noticed and recognized two of his favorites: a photo posing of "Doctor Who",Tom Baker and a video collection of the television series: "V".
It was an immediate thought in my mind, eating our beef brocoli that May in 2001, that if Kirk didnt want to wear a suit to the wedding it might be fun if he wore his Batman armor. Only one problem with such a scenario... If Kirk was Batman, who was I ??? Poison Ivy, Batgirl, Catwoman... well while all of these ideas would definitely shock and delight the male population reading this, the thought of my wearing a skin tight pleather body suit in any proportion to my wedding, or anywhere, sent chills down my spine. No sooner had the words left my mouth that I began to panic asking myself how soon could I perform miracle weight loss and plastic surgery, to feel the least bit comfortable wearing anything in the "SuperFemale" role. But then I glanced beside me at the glowing little smile and wide eyes gazing at me with complete delight. I realized that Kirk was actually excited about the idea of dressing in a costume... then he said something and suddenly I was calm again. "Pamela, I think it would be fun to wear a costume to our wedding but I have been Batman enough and I don't think anyone would think it was special..." I could have let everything at that and never uttered another word, but once again I spoke out and said, "Honey, ya know... I have always seen you as more of the "Thor" type anyway..."
From that moment forward started the snowball that turned into the beautiful wedding we now celebrate as our anniversary every October 4th.
