Trivia in Disguise~Game Rules~

GAME RULES

Seems funny, but when we said that this room had no rules, some folks panicked, some said, "You gotta have rules!" and some said, "Oh NO, if I am reading, there are gonna be rules!" So, here are a consensus of rules that most trivia rooms follow, with our own special slant. Please remember, we have a tendency to break our own rules, so fasten your seatbelt and come along for the ride!

Only owners or senior moderators will have hammers. Why? because *laughs*
Actually, a couple of rooms have had some serious disasters lately due to the fact that some wackos have had control of the room. Although you are an old time player, and we trust you completely, the only fair thing to do is restrict hammers. If you would like to become a Senior Moderator, please drop us a note. We would love to have you on the team!
Moderators will announce their particular game rules at the start of the match.
Yeah, sure we will, if we remember, or after the point is disputed, or maybe never! *Laughing* Remember, we don't get paid, we are just running the game.
Games are played to 30 points
Unless the readers are tired and want to go to bed, and noone else will volunteer to take over!
If the score is tied 29~29, the two point rule is imposed.
The winning team is required to win by two points. Most readers will not give clues on "PGP", Possible Game Point. However, this rule is up to the moderator, and as is with everything else, can be broken! The moderators will get together and discuss the breaking of this rule in advance of reading the PGP question(s).
Winning point is determined by the Moderators' screen.
There are no instant replays, however, there are appeals! If the Moderator misses your point winning answer, please type in larger letters, Look Up! Please give the moderator a couple of seconds to notice your post before you type it in again. Usually the person who was awarded the point will post it also, but not always! (Although you may be first on your screen, depending on your ping and the Moderators' ping, the Moderator has final say!) Some of our favorite Moderators award points for good sportsmanship, interesting spelling, or just 'cuz! Hey, we are here to have fun...so don't worry about it!
Gents type in blue and Ladies type in red or pink.
This makes it so much easier for the score keeper to award the point to the right team. You can change color and play for the other team, but it would be nice if you post in the room that are planning on cross dressing! Scorekeeper normally types in black so that we can see the score easily. Scorekeeper will declare which team they are playing for. If you are typing in black, the first time you win a point, the moderator will ask you which team you are playing for, and award the point to that team. The moderator will ask you to change font colors and help you if you don't know how. After that, if you continue to type in black, the Moderator can award the point to whichever team they desire!
Numbers under 10 are typed out.
I personally feel this is anal retentive and never require it, just know that the Moderator may have declared this as one of their rules at the beginning of the game, and their determination goes!
Spelling does NOT count!
As long as we can even remotely determine that you were in the general vicinity of the correct answer, we will award you the point! (This does not work on "Spelling" questions or if a Moderator states that the correct spelling is required before that particular question.)
No abbreviations.
For the most part, we will apply this rule however we like, so when in doubt, go for the point and let the chips fall where they may!
Last names are sufficent unless the Moderator states they want both names or unless the last name is common and can refer to more than one reasonable response to the question.
(Example: Which U.S. president was the "Teddy Bear" named after? The answer would have to be Theodore Roosevelt, as there were two presidents by the name of Roosevelt.)
Courtesy and Good sportsmanship are really appreciated.
Congratulating point winners, team winners, and thanking the Moderators and Scorekeepers, keeps the room mellow, and encourages more volunteerism.
Participate in the room and do your share!
Reading a game is a valuable and hard job. Give the oldtimers a break and volunteer to read and score at least one game every other visit! If you don't have questions, go to the links pages and we have numerous resources for you to be able to read. You will also find a link there for an automated scorekeeping program that works great on Firetalk! If you don't have a microphone, pick one up for about $12 U.S. or at least volunteer to score!
