After collaborations with Mos Def (on Black Star) and Hi-Tek (Reflection Eternal), the poetic rapper known as Talib Kweli has released his debut solo album, Quality.

Quality is extremely diverse, but manages to maintain well-construed beats via the instrumental stylings of producers Kanye West, Ayatollah, J Dilla, DJ Quik, Dave West and DJ Scratch. The beats themselves are diverse with some being upbeat and in your face ('Rush', 'Shock Body') and others are meant to relax the mind ('Talk To You'). Regardless, Talib Kweli manages to mold his lyrical content uniquely to each beat, thus yielding diverse messages and themes throughout Quality.

'Get By' is an upbeat thriller encouraging everyone to do more than just get by - wake up and live. The captivating 'The Proud' shares Talib Kweli's insights into the recent acts of terror in America and the resulting political activities. The slow and introspective 'Where do we go' features spine-tingling chorus by Res and production by J Dilla. 'Joy' features partner Mos Def, and details the joy of bringing a new life into this world. 'Won't You Stay' features the amazing vocals of Kendra Ross on the hook and tells the story of relationship struggles and indecision. The first single, 'Waitin for the DJ' is a weaker track definitely chosen for its potential club appeal.

Quality proves Talib Kweli can stand on his own and shine. The consciousness he expresses in his lyrics makes his music stick in your mind and your heart. Despite faltering on a few songs, Talib Kweli presents an album to be enjoyed by fans of his past work.
