The Nickel Plate Road's Raber, Indiana, Depot Tour
|
These photos show both the outside and the inside of the former NKP Raber, Ind., depot
in current conditions.
The original structure at Raber, Indiana, was replaced in World War II
with the structure you see here. Purchased in 1971, for $1.00, by a former Nickel Plate man,
the structure was moved 1.4 miles west of Raber. A small addition was added after the move as can be seen
in the photos. Norfolk & Western required the building to have the "RABER" painted over as the building is
essentially line-side.
The depot is in dire need of attention. Paint and window rebuilding would go a long way in preserving this
fine example of a small, rural depot. The layout of the Raber, Indiana, facilities can be seen
on the mechanical drawing page (LINK below)
including the placement of the switch, depot, section house, and more.
