RE: Whites Landing, Catalina
Summary of Catalina Trip, October 19-21, 2001

Just wanted to let you know we had an excellent time at White's Landing with the Trail Blazers this weekend.  A whole herd of buffalo came into camp, that was amazing!  I've never seen buffalo there before, even after miles of hiking.

Grant - the camp director led a snorkeling tour around the south point of the camp, which was the highlight for my son and me.  The fish and scenery were fantastic.   The water was cold, so I was glad for our wetsuits.

I thought the food was fine - much better than two years ago, the last time I was there.

For next year I would suggest that we request the snorkeling tour, and encourage everyone to bring his or her wetsuits and gear.  If we could do two tours - one in the morning, one in the afternoon - even better.  Everyone who wants to hike can still do that - some people even hiked to the airport this time - too far for me!

We also saw about 5 or 6 leapard sharks swimming in the surf - again, what a treat!  They were about 3 to 4 feet long, just swimming back and forth in about 1 to 2 feet of water.

Also next year, I'll try and remember to bring a star chart - the skies were clear one night - lots of stars and the Milky Way.
